What do teachers say about this resource? (9165)

This resource would enhance any student’s learning. The activities are perfectly tailored to fit the demands of the curriculum by focusing on the AOs throughout in an imaginative and engaging way. There is plenty of contextual information presented in a accessible ‘chunks’ and linked to activities designed to facilitate understanding rather than just accumulation of knowledge. Developing analytical skills is embedded in the consideration of form, structure and language... The presentation and layout are clear with plenty of white space so students aren’t over-faced with huge blocks of text. The activities are presented in an engaging way. The Powerpoint is particularly excellent in this respect... The resource clearly matches the specification throughout, starting with the clear and detailed consideration of what the AOs actually mean in practice. Each activity focuses on the AOs and the sections explicitly focusing on context are particularly good. The activities cover a range of applicable skills and learning styles, for example basic cutting out and ordering key events for plot; considering similarities and difference between characters and matching quotes with literary techniques using post its; hot seating and recording an audio version... A fantastic resource.

A very thorough and well-written resource which will engage weaker and disengaged learners in the text and its context whilst considering its relevance to today. The character-narrated summaries are innovative and activities are designed to ensure maximum student participation... I particularly liked the quick guide to AOs and the plot summaries. I also like the slides which break up the texts and tasks into easily digestible ‘chunks’ and aid memory and revision. The glossary of terms is comprehensive and useful too... The resource helps weaker and/or disengaged students understand and meet requirements to pass GCSE English. It provides for a broad range of learning skills and styles whilst exploring the relevance of the text within the time it was written and its relevance both then and now. A comprehensive range of needs are met including how to write PEE paragraphs, reference quotations and use literary terms. The attention placed on listening and speaking skills is most welcome, considering the target audience... The presentation and layout are extremely attractive and student-friendly... It matches and interprets the specifications very well, illustrating which learning objectives are being met for each task. It prepares students fully for the relevant sections of the GCSE English Literature exam for the various specifications... This resource prepares not only prepares learners for the relevant part of the GCSE exam but provides them with useful literary skills for life.

An excellent resource. It offers a range of tasks suited to developing the understanding of all aspects of the text... It is well organised into sections which can be used in any order a teacher sees fit, based on he class and the signposted tasks included. It shows the writer understands the text and how to make it accessible for students too... The teacher notes section at the beginning is very detailed... Suggested answers are also helpful to have as a reference point and to save time... Having the PPT slides at the back as a reference for some of the activities is also helpful to be able to visualise what the resource would be like... I think that the varied approach to tasks is effective at engaging learners and that these activities enhance the understanding of learners too. The resource covers key knowledge in active ways and clearly signposts the skills they are developing through the tasks with the AO icons... The organisation is well thought out and reflects most of the teaching approaches that staff would use in terms of chapter by chapter focus before trying to revise specific themes or quotations following developing understanding of the narrative. The varied tasks are set out in appropriate ways that are not repetitive and that lend itself to being able to photocopy the resources to share with students too... It offers a range of approaches and builds the foundation of knowledge required for this text in order to be successful, which some weaker learners lack of struggle to engage with on first reading... A well constructed and thought out resource.

Excellent resource... I liked the clear summary of each chapter and activities which were great... There are activities which don't have an exam focus as well which is nice to get the students engaged... It is clearly laid out and easy to access... It matches [the specification] well.

A very comprehensive and detailed resource that covers all the key areas in a thorough way. There is imaginative use of activities and overall it is well thought through... The teachers’ notes section was very helpful indeed as there is a lot of detail giving guidance on how to proceed with all the different activities, and I found this very helpful as a teacher... The anticipatory plot summary was particularly good for less-able students... As well as the activities for each chapter, the range of activities that explore the different characters is also really good... Some of the activities relating to structure are immensely useful... Overall, this is an excellent resource.

Engaging layout which is user-friendly for the weaker learner and tired teacher! I really like the chapter summaries / plot overviews. I think they have been done in a very student-friendly way which will help them to unpick the complexities of the novel and the Victorian language... I really like the topics for the context presentations, as this is something that would actually be interesting for the students to do and it encourages independence in the texts... I really like the way that it takes students on a step-by-step walk through how to construct an essay. Little details like how to set out quotations can be a huge issue with the lowest ability, and this kind of info would give them the best possible chance of succeeding... I also like the chapter worksheets with the glossary, as this encourages resourcefulness in the students.
