A well thought out unit of work with a nice range of activities to engage students. Lovely PowerPoint to accompany. I like how the PowerPoint guides you through the lesson, as well as having detailed lesson plans alongside. Often when buying units of work you spend a lot of time turning them into PowerPoint presentations, so the fact this comes as a complete package means it is easy to use straight off the shelf. As it is all step by step, it could be used by experienced teachers, or NQTs/trainees too... I like the choice of texts for use at KS3 to begin developing a love of 19th Century Literature, but through a text most students will be familiar with in some way. The activities look in detail at some of the ideas GCSE students may need to identify in texts (e.g. satire) and begin to prepare students for the more challenging GCSEs
I really liked this resource... The lesson plans and PowerPoint slides are clear and easy to follow. I liked the suggestions for alternative lessons or activities to encourage differentiation in the classroom... The variety of activities enable students to express their opinions and use evidence to support their ideas from the very beginning... The scheme of work goes beyond analysis of the text and introduces students to a variety of genres and styles such as satire. This is a really well thought out and detailed resource that would be a real aid to a busy teacher wanting high quality resources. I could easily see myself teaching it and feeling confident in my presentation to the students.
