A very good resource, which took students gradually and comprehensively through the requirements of Component 1 Reading using the theme of diffability. The clear instructions for both teacher and students make it user-friendly and the texts used are relevant and interesting... I liked the differentiated tasks and the split between skills building and taking it further, which meant students are fully prepared for that part of the exam as they show understanding of texts before critically evaluating. The table mapping tasks to AOs and the simplified marking schemes with level indicators were also useful as were the Remember and Tip boxes. The text organisation exercises help students understand how texts are structured as well as summarising the main points... The resource enhances learning by covering all the key skills and requirements to enable learners to do their best in the reading component of GCSE exams. It also provides a variety of quality texts, which give an increasing understanding of disability and diffability. It also provides vocabulary study. Learners of all abilities can access the resource...The presentation and layout was excellent. The resource makes excellent use of tables for a variety of learning outcomes such as PEE paragraphing and re-ordering events and graphics. Flow charts are also used for essay planning... It matches and interprets the specification extremely well and tasks indicate clearly which questions and learning outcomes/criteria are covered. Each unit follows on from the next, meaning it can be used for a series of lessons.

I really enjoyed this resource – it included a range of topical readings that I could link clearly to many of the themes covered in class... I think it is great.
A thoughtful and methodical approach to dealing with the reading components of the new Eduqas English Language spec... The extracts ... are engaging... It would be incredibly useful for intervention [as it] helps students to structure their reading response with a range of pertinent questions... There are effective key words that are clearly explained to support student knowledge of subject terminology. There is clear focus on close language analysis, which is always an aspect of the specification that students struggle with... The extension tasks are effective for more-able students... The mark schemes are clear and effective, allowing specialists and non-specialists alike to be able to support students to boost their responses and access the higher grades/bands offered by the spec... A really well-structured resource that gets to the heart of what students are expected to do... It is refreshing see a collection of resources that puts students at the heart of their own development and tries to engage them in a range of broad social issues that are relevant to students' own lives... A great time saver!
