This is an excellent resource... A really good ‘handbook’ to have in any English department. The resource has been designed to slowly build students' understanding of linguistic devices... The resource is clearly written, [which] enables it be to be dipped in and out of as and when required... Provides clear definitions of terms and examples of how these can be applied... The ‘Analysis in Practice’ sections have been well thought out, and the style makes them easy to use. My students would benefit greatly from this resource.
This is an excellent resource that would be a fantastic investment for any school. One of the biggest challenges facing Language & Literature students is getting to grips with the frameworks, and this resource supports that... It contains a variety of activities that will develop students' knowledge of the subject terminology relevant to studying A Level. I particularly liked the logical approach that works through the frameworks in a systematic way. The answers provided at the end are also a useful resource for teachers... A high-quality resource that will facilitate students in learning about the different frameworks [and] support students in gaining the subject-specific knowledge they need to apply to all of their A-Level Lang/Lit texts.
A really useful resource for teaching the core skills of linguistic analysis of texts, particularly literary texts. It would be easy to use whichever text a teacher had decided to teach or to use first in the course, so it has maximum usefulness. I like its no-nonsense style, focusing in on what is useful... I also really appreciate the well-selected range of short literary extracts for practice... It clearly explains how to use key terminology, demonstrates this with relevant examples and offers relevant practice.
A useful set of tasks that could serve as an introduction to the skills... With a team of teachers who are new to the language aspect of A Level, this would be invaluable. I liked the separate tasks – these could be used as starters / to model skills before focusing on a set text... The resource is accessible and practical for both teachers and students.
A potentially useful resource for teachers who are new to teaching the A Level Lang and Lit specification. [I like] the clear layout and use of examples to illustrate concepts... As an introduction, this resource would help teachers to introduce the stylistic aspect of the course, and how linguistic and literary ideas work together, rather than as two separate concepts. It would, therefore, help students to develop their understanding of the course requirements...
