What do teachers say about this resource? (6131)
I was very impressed by the comprehensive nature of this resource... a good classroom resource for supporting students and developing the fundamental skills that they need to meet the demands of the new KS3 and KS4 curriculum... The early exercises on sentence structures are very good... The preparatory exercises are useful and the range of activities for putting it into practice are very good... the resource will enhance learning as there are lots of useful worksheets to both consolidate learning and also to stretch students further.
Comprehensive
Provided some very useful structures and activities for teaching a key aspect of writing that is often neglected at Key Stage 3. The activities were structured and clearly explained. The resource moved from sentence level work to whole-text cohesion work in a logical way... I liked the use of examples from real texts that were appropriate to higher-ability Key Stage 3 students. I liked the constant review/progress check activities that were woven throughout the resource.... It clearly explains sentence and text structures and enables students to practise them in a structured way. It encourages teachers to be more explicit about grammar and sentence/text construction in a way that is increasingly necessary in order to prepare students for the new GCSEs... It would support any writing scheme and provides a wealth of resources for starters, plenaries and homework activities to check progress... It is clearly presented and easy to follow... provides a solid foundation to prepare students for writing in the exams for the new AQA specifications for both Language and Literature. The increased focus and weighting in the mark schemes of SPAG/QWC will require students (and teachers) to engage with sentence and text structuring in more explicit detail and this resource provides an excellent starting point to do this.
A comprehensive resource which covers a variety of writing styles and sentence structures... A clear focus on learning, consolidating and practising throughout the resource with varying tasks.
The informal tone and address made it instantly accessible... Clear, student-friendly explanations for each skill... variety of activities for students to apply their learning... It helps by promoting ownership and independence... It helps to make a skill, which can frustrate students, easily understandable... It enhances learning as it provides a different way to approach a skill... Clear ideas which can be used straight away in the classroom... a well-crafted resource, which would suit my students and help them develop and improve their writing skills
