What do teachers say about this resource? (5533)

A useful guide, written in student-friendly language and with examples drawn from literature to show students some examples of different literary techniques... Very well pitched for GCSE level... but also good preparation for A Level... This resource would really help to improve vocabulary.

The educational value of this resource is large as it encourages independent learning and ownership and responsibility to the students... It is also flexible and can be used in a number of ways as classroom activities, homework and revision activities, etc. The inbuilt activities work well to help build and develop students' understanding of the key terms in the context of the exam or the essay. This is something that could also be introduced to the higher end of KS3 to help develop their understanding prior to entering KS4.

A lovely, simple resource. Well researched and presented. I can't believe something like this hasn't been created before! The definitions were simple and effective, in words which students could understand, complete with varied and interesting examples. It allows quick reference and revision but also learning and understanding by providing a chance for the students to create their own glossary using the texts they have studied... All the key terms are covered.

Impressed with the resource as I read through it. Definitely a case of 'does what it says on the tin'; simple but effective... The definitions were written in an understandable, accessible manner for the age group, and I liked the way that an example was given or the term was used in a sentence each time as this would be useful for students. I also liked how, at the end of the resource, these terms were divided into poetry, prose, linguistic, etc. to help students know when they should be using them too. I also liked the checklist at the end where students could evaluate their confidence level with these terms... I think that the terms selected are appropriate for any GCSE specification; they are certainly ones which I would aim to teach my students... It would be a good revision resource for them to use at home.

Often students are given new vocabulary but are unsure of how to use it within a sentence. This resource allows them to practise this and encourages them to use it within essays before their final assessment. [It is] presented clearly [and] is beneficial to any student studying this course.
