A Christmas Carol: Activity Pack for GCSE

Set text for: AQA | Edexcel | Eduqas | OCR | WJEC

Approach Dickens' well-loved text from a fresh perspective with this comprehensive and highly visual bank of activities.

This resource is quite simply outstanding! It is clearly written by a talented professional with excellent subject knowledge and a fantastic understanding of the types of activity that engage students

L Deighton, HoD & Peer Reviewer (1st edition)

Activities include:

  • Insightful questions
  • Stimulating reading and writing tasks
  • Pair and group work
  • SPaG and vocabulary practice
  • Creative activities for visual and kinaesthetic learners
  • Appealing tasks based on modern media

Carefully considered structure develops understanding:

  1. Build a foundation for learning and get students interested with introductory pre-reading exercises.
  2. Dig deeper with text-based activities. Every chapter is explored through a range of thought-provoking tasks.
  3. Consolidate knowledge with whole-text activities focusing on: Characterisation • Relationships • Setting • Themes • Ideas and Messages • Language • Form • Structure • Context

All activities are perfectly matched to the GCSE Assessment Objectives. Differentiated worksheets provide support for weaker learners and challenge high achievers, allowing your whole class to reach their potential.

Plus! Suggested answers for questions and activities included.

What do teachers say about this resource? (1629)

This resource is quite simply outstanding! It is clearly written by a talented professional with excellent subject knowledge and a fantastic understanding of the types of activity that engage students. All the tasks are linked to valuable learning objectives so that although it is an ‘activity pack’, it still focuses on what the students are learning rather than just work for them to do. The author’s subject knowledge on the novella shines through and would be incredibly useful to any teacher, especially those who are not familiar with the novella. This resource fully matches my interpretation of the specification and would be a highly valuable asset to any school introducing this specification.

L Deighton, HoD & Peer Reviewer (1st edition)

Carefully considered and effective ... I like the resource a lot. Differentiation for a lot of the tasks means that this resource would work well across the full range of students. The format is easy to follow; the list of tasks highlights which AO is being addressed in each case, thus allowing the teacher to ensure a full coverage of the text. It’s a very well-thought-out resource.

S Owen, Second in Department & Peer Reviewer (1st edition)

A useful tool for covering the key aspects of the text: pre-reading activities provide a secure introduction to context and ideas within the text, which are then built on throughout each stave. The scaffolding used throughout is particularly effective. There is a strong focus on interpretation and close language analysis throughout, with technical terminology used to support.

M Riches, Second in Department & Peer Reviewer (1st edition)
