What do teachers say about this resource? (1247)
This resource provides a wealth of background knowledge to promote independent reading. It also gives a very detailed reading of the novel, section by section to support analysis. It is very well written and therefore provides a model for students' own writing... The tracking of motifs like blood and breath was very detailed and illuminating... Very detailed, erudite, informative and comprehensive. Suggestions of wider reading and the links to podcasts, websites and video clips will be very useful... Very much looking forward to teaching the book again next year now!
A highly detailed and thoroughly comprehensive resource. It would be perfect for a teacher who was teaching Birdsong for the first time. It would give them everything they needed to plan and prepare to teach this novel... What comes across so clearly is the writer's love and appreciation of the novel. They are incredibly engaged with the importance it against the wider context of the importance of remembering. [It] came across as being very personal whilst not losing objectivity... As a teacher, I appreciated the huge number of references to poems and other texts, such as articles, that help make sense of Birdsong and how Faulks was alluding to World War I literature. This is brilliant for AO3 – context.
