GCSE OCR B Geography (J384)

Note regarding: new specification (first teach from September 2025, assessments from summer 2027)

A summary of the changes for the new specification:

• Amended exam duration (from June 2026): Both GCSE Geography B exams have been extended by 15 minutes, taking the total of each exam to 1hr 30mins.
• Topic 1 – Global Hazards: 1.2a (from June 2027): convection currents has been removed and replaced with ‘understanding of slab pull and ridge push to show how tectonic plates move’.
• Topic 5 – Urban Futures: 5.2a (from June 2027): ‘squatter settlements’ has been replaced with ‘informal settlements’.
• Topic 6 – Dynamic Development: 6.2a (from June 2027): Millennium Development Goals has been removed and replaced with ‘progress towards three relevant Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for this LIDC’.
• Topic 6 – Dynamic Development: 6.2b (from June 2027): ‘international aid or debt relief’ has been removed and replaced with ‘the advantages and disadvantages of international aid such as debt relief for its development’.

As outlined above the first change only affects the examination timing and the remainders are termininology. As such the resources below are still suitable for the new specification (exams from summer 2027) but as they still contain the old wording please manually make changes for your students. We will carry through the above changes when there is next a notable specification change.
