Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde: Gifted and Talented Pack for GCSE

A challenging activity pack which stretches your gifted and more able students during their exploration of The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde at GCSE. Activities demonstrate how to achieve the highest grades possible using aspects of Bloom’s Taxonomy and give students control over their own learning. Perfect for complementing classroom activities or to be used as hand-outs/homework.

Particularly useful for gifted and talented students, pushing them to conceptualised responses which evaluate ideas and context

K Newitt, Teacher and Independent Reviewer

Covers the key areas of the novel: important events, characters, relationships, context, language, structure, form, themes, setting, ideas and interpretations. Within each key area, engaging and thought-provoking activities aim to:

  • prompt the recall of important points
  • aid comprehension and reinforce clear, advanced understanding
  • enable students to apply their knowledge of the novel to a new situation or an unseen extract
  • support implicit and explicit analyses
  • encourage individual interpretations and stimulate new, creative and individual ideas

Will be very useful for more able students... Offers both stretch and support

A Powell, English Teacher & Peer Reviewer

Going further! Help students practise their essay-writing skills by using an annotated response to demonstrate the best way of achieving top marks.

What do teachers say about this resource? (9166)

An excellent resource! Very thorough and with a good range of detailed activities. I’d definitely use it in my lesson planning. I like the way it’s organised – it will be very useful for more able students. It’s great to find a resource that does not patronise GCSE students... It offers both stretch and support.

Thorough and well designed... It is particularly useful for gifted and talented students, pushing them to conceptualised responses which evaluate ideas and context... The exam-style questions with the beginnings of exemplar answers are invaluable as models for students... The resources which deal with contextual ideas and literary comparisons with other texts are particularly useful for gifted and talented students to push for the higher grades.

K Newitt, Teacher and Independent Reviewer

A very interesting resource, which would benefit the top-enders. It would work as an independent stretch and challenge activity booklet, or could be embedded into class teaching to ensure a well-rounded approach to the novella... Provides some very interesting critical perspectives on the text... I also like the creative elements. It's all too easy to teach to the exam, but this provides a wealth of ideas which can ensure students remain engaged with the texts... I like the critical perspective quotations which are dotted throughout. This encourages the top end to engage with the novella on a critical level, as this conceptual understanding is what is required to hit the very top. I like the encouragement to read more widely than just the text, and the fact that this is backed up with where students should be looking and which texts to explore, is very helpful... A really good resource on the whole, with lots of useful activities... Some interesting wider reading and critical perspective ideas which would indeed stretch and challenge the very top end.

K Chanter, Teacher & Peer Reviewer

I liked that this could easily be made into an independent learning booklet, which would be excellent for the top-grade students.
