What do teachers say about this resource? (9344)
This is an amazing resource to allow pupils to practise translation, an element of the examinations they often find the most difficult and challenging and therefore it will certainly enhance learning. I thought this was also very educational as it allows the pupils to revise all the grammar that is required at A Level and then actively use this grammar in context. By using this resource, I believe pupils will not only have more opportunity to develop their translation skills into German and English but also they will develop a greater awareness of what is expected on them in the examination.
I like that section A is solely based on the A Level topics and section B consolidate the work done in Year 1 of the A Level course so that pupils can be revising the vocabulary and themes for their A Level exam. The resource therefore models good spaced practice and interleaving concepts which are excellent practice for linear exams.I think the structure of the resource is excellent too. I really like that mark schemes are given and can be used by the pupils to peer assess.
What do teachers say about this resource? (9130)
It is a valuable resource which gives targeted practice to translation. It allows for acquisition of a range of vocabulary related to the specification. It provides practice on a range of grammatical topics which are frequently tested in the translation section.
Good tips on translating into German, with detailed grammar advice on areas that are tested in exams and that trip students up. Great to see targeted practice of grammar areas using the vocabulary and themes covered at A-Level. This is an area that can be difficult to find for A-Level resources as the textbooks don’t provide this. The translations at the end of each worksheet are at the standard needed for the exam, and more importantly, the solutions are in the format which is used to mark the A-Level translation, thereby giving the students valuable practice in this area and allowing them to become familiar with this mark scheme, and see how important each individual aspect of grammar is to the overall mark (i.e. one minor error could potentially cause you to be awarded zero for an entire sentence). The resource is well structured in the form of individual worksheets, which each cover a specific grammar point and allow for practice of a translation in the format of this, which can be given individually to students.
This resource matches this specification well. The themes covered match exactly what is taught in the first year of the course and the style of translations included are exactly the format of the translations in the exam.
