A beautiful, engaging and accessible resource bringing renewed life into this classic play. Whether teaching it for the first time or for the fifteenth time, there is something here to pick and teach or to plan more detailed lessons and activities from... I really liked the integration of meaningful performance and S&L tasks; I also liked the more visual tasks such as the storyboard. There are also lots of nice images, symbols and other visual aspects to keep lower-ability students engaged... [This resource enhances learning] superbly. Lower-ability students will easily be able to gain an understanding of the play, the key characters, the structure and the context. The AO4 research tasks are fantastic, [and the resource matches and interprets this specification] fantastically. The AOs page ... translates the assessment requirements into student-friendly language, and the resources enable a full teaching of the play, allowing students to perform well in this part of their exam.
The resource was comprehensive, varied and tuned in to the ... needs of learners... The resources are varied in tasks so that they do not appear monotonous and repetitive... I really liked the breakdown of specifications into student-friendly language. This would be perfect to give to weaker students; it enables them to access what they need to do without being overwhelmed or daunted by the task ahead. The fact that the resources can be used as stand-alone resources/tasks instead of having to follow a scheme of work is a huge bonus. You can dip in and out of the resource dependent on needs ... and time... Analysing texts can be challenging, but the writing frames break it down to enable it to be accessible by all.
It's an effective and comprehensive set of classroom resources for working with the play with a lower-ability set... It's fully classroom-ready and absolutely covers what is needed to help this group of students engage with the play. I can see my class enjoying many of the activities and am looking forward to approaching this text with them far more than I was previously... Key concepts (characters, themes, context) are clearly and fully dealt with. Students have plenty of opportunities to think, discuss and record their ideas in a way that will support revision later on... It's very well laid out: nice clean design with appropriate and helpful images and good use of clear boxes / grids / mind maps to complete... Covers everything needed. I won't need to supplement this at all.
It’s full of useful ideas that are well structured to support the learning of the less able... It can be used as a flexible resource for teachers to dip into. It covers a range of activities, from understanding the plot to exploring language and dramatic devices in a way that also provides students with the tools to write about these devices. I also like that it includes a variety of drama-based activities – this helps students to see the play as a text that was written to be performed, rather than read in a classroom. One way it particularly supports weaker students is that most of the activities are very carefully structured to work students up to being able to write more independently about the play.
The resource is good in the logical and manageable way it breaks down the play. It is helpful in providing good examples of activities and some useful worksheets to help students structure their thinking about the play... I liked the socio-historical resources. They were engaging and helpfully linked to the key ideas that are relevant when considering the play's meaning... This takes the students through a clear step-by-step process to develop confidence in understanding the content of the play. It helps the students to delve more deeply into the message of the play at times. There are really clear key ideas explored for both characters and themes which allow the students to prepare comprehensive notes that would be useful for revision.
This resource will save teachers time. There is a good range of activities which would engage lower-ability students (group presentations, film extracts), and the tasks are already set up, which means they can be used instantly... I like the glossary of useful terms because it explains the terms clearly and uses images to support the text... I also like how the quiz isn’t filled with only one obvious option... Students will feel encouraged by this and challenged by the questions asked. The paragraphs frames serve the same purpose – providing support without being too obviously adapted for lower ability... This resource enhances learning by encouraging students to work together for a range of activities. Students will then use their peers for support, and it will help promote an effective and safe learning environment.
A good resource that includes a wide variety of activities which will engage the students. Very clearly set out and accessible for teachers... There was a good range of activities, and these were well organised to cover all the central themes and ideas in the play... The level of work was appropriately placed, with lots of structure and a good balance between guided activities, independent work and group work... The resource will help students acquire a really good basic understanding of the text and have a good overview of it. The worksheet format was very helpful and guided the students through note-making. There were also some useful sheets which would be appropriate to leave as cover lessons which were very user-friendly and self-explanatory... The presentation and layout were very clear, [with] well-defined sections, and illustrations were used effectively to make the resource attractive.
