What do teachers say about this resource? (833)

Engages learners and harnesses competitiveness in the service of learning... It is easy to use... It consolidates existing knowledge in a fun, interactive way. It helps learners learn from each other... provides useful metalanguage about language.

D Richards, Literacy Programme Leader & Peer Reviewer

It would definitely enhance learning and would involve the whole group... it is a good self- and peer assessment tool... the theory is excellent... a really good idea, with real educational value

J Churchill, English Teacher & Peer Reviewer

A very creative idea that incorporates the basic rules of grammar into a handy board game... It means that they can compete against one another, whilst also strengthening their language skills... I liked... the fact that the children were actively using language in their answers to try and move on in the game... It would definitely make pupils think about their own use of language and because they have to verbally respond... It would definitely be of use with KS3 and 4 - the skills that are embedded within the game are essential to any study of English, so it had universal appeal.

L Reynolds, Literacy Coordinator, English Teacher & Peer Reviewer

A fun idea... I can imagine my pupils finding it an enjoyable, different game to play... I liked the clear, concise rules and lists of examples to guide the pupils... this reinforces basic grammatical rules and definitions and allows pupils to apply this knowledge in an interesting, stimulating way... I feel it could be a fun resource to use towards the end of the academic year as a grammar reinforcement under the guise of a game!... A clever idea!

M Evans, Literacy Coordinator & Peer Reviewer

A different approach to checking grammar has been understood by all students... I liked the fun element to the resource and the very detailed instruction sheet helped a great deal... It enhances learning due to it being a fun, kinaesthetic way of learning but still important. I also thought the 'star' spot was a good idea as to how to improve spoken English... simple and easy to follow... this is a good way of re-capping at GCSE level for a bit of important fun.

C Barker, English Teacher & Peer Reviewer

A useful and unusual game... I like the idea and the sense of challenge and competition. The instructions were helpful... It makes a good addition to formal grammar learning and tests grammar knowledge effectively. The format makes it a pleasant change from more formal teaching methods.

S Jones, English Teacher & Peer Reviewer

I like the clear instructions and examples on the instruction sheet... It is good for consolidating students’ understanding of grammar, and provides some good examples to support them... It interprets the National Framework for English Writing Strand 9.2 quite thoroughly and also addresses AF5 and to a certain extent AF6 for Writing in the Assessing Pupils’ Progress at Key Stage 3 Guidelines.

A Powell, English Teacher & Peer Reviewer

I liked the way the resource attempts to make the teaching of grammar approachable and fun, and like the game format.
