What do teachers say about this resource? (7587)

I liked this resource... Very thorough... User friendly... The revision of the text and the character summary table were almost worth buying the resource on their own... I also liked the key quotations and close analysis... This resource enhances learning, particularly at the end of the course, by pulling all the loose ends together and taking the student by the hand to negotiate AOs and essay skills... Its educational value is to reassure weaker students and to extend the more able by providing additional activities... It matches the specification excellently.

What do teachers say about this resource? (7484)

A thorough, helpful and clear resource.

It comes across as ‘calm and steady’, very simple, clear and focused.

It is easy to see what the assessment criteria are and how to improve to get there, as well as offering comprehensive revision opportunities. I particularly liked the essay mat and the specimen essays.

The sample essays and self-assessment opportunities make it clear what the AOs mean and how to achieve them.

On the whole this is a really useful resource for this novella.

What do teachers say about this resource? (8704)

A really helpful resource.

I really liked the summary table and the way the language needed for GCSE level is in bold '.

I enjoyed the analysis sections looking closely at quotations, especially as these now need to be memorised for the exams.

I really liked the scaffolds.

I felt this resource was one of the best ones I have reviewed as it was incredibly in depth and covered all aspects of the exam for Eduqas although could be used in and out of the classroom too for study periods and exam improvement for any board.

I felt that this resource has been written by someone who knows the play well, knows where students need to pick up more points in an exam paper and has experience of teaching Shakespeare. I was very impressed by the content.

Easy to follow... I particularly liked the scene summary charts and the character charts; they were succinct and comprehensive, and contained apt quotations... It would perhaps be well suited for students to work through independently due to the level of instruction on each task... It enhances learning quotations nicely with many short and apt quotations given throughout, and it demonstrates nicely how to integrate and embed quotations. It also gives a good demonstration of essay writing, with lots of example answers to use as models and scaffolds for students to improve their exam technique.

What do teachers say about this resource? (8411)

This is a strong and comprehensive resource that provides detailed examination guidance for GCSE students. The resource is tailored to the Eduqas specification and makes good use of exemplar essays and scaffolded activities/writing frames to help students identify the right structure to adopt in their approach.

The resource is accessible and user-friendly, and seems targeted well towards GCSE students. There are no overly complex explanations of scenes etc. that would confuse students. On the other hand, though, the resource does not seek to over-simplify Macbeth.

I would definitely consider using it as a primary revision resource in year 11 teaching - particularly in the final few months prior to examinations, to hone the essay technique. The annotation prompts on the example scenes are particularly helpful, as they provide students with a step in the correct direction without just providing the answer.

Matches the spec very closely. A clear emphasis on understanding the key skills and approaches required for both Parts A and B of the Shakespeare section of the examination.

J Kearney, Teacher of English & Peer Reviewer (Macbeth Version)

The resource provides clear frames/scaffolds, planning structures and examples for candidates to learn from. It is clearly related to the specification and clearly explains the marking points (AOs) and, in this context, it shows the differences between essays at different levels which is very helpful in order to show pupils how they might improve. The resource also includes a good range of sample exam questions which will be useful to both students and teachers. An overview of the main events of the play with settings, dramatic techniques and themes is also provided in a neat, accessible format... I really like the focus on using and learning more sophisticated vocabulary... Mind maps are provided to help candidates select quotations for analysis. These are a helpful tool for many students... With these structures and examples, they could be shown exactly what to do at each stage of an essay and it would help them to work through an exam question in a logical, ordered way.

Well created and designed... I liked that it had a summary table to begin with... KS3 and KS4 children will be able to utilise the resource as a revision aid or even as a supplementary activities... Helps [students] identify and recognise the different assessment objectives and be able to embed that in their writing.

What do teachers say about this resource? (7780)

Uses a good range of activities and gives varying levels of support for students. Glossaries, suggested topics and completed tables will help those that are LA/MA. I do like the student essays that are specific as to where students can improve their work... I like the clear peer/self-assessment student mark schemes, which also remind the students of the AO4 element [and] the worked-through examples and responses that encourage students to identify certain levelled criteria for specific AOs. I feel that resources such as this would be invaluable to students... The resource is well matched [to the specification] as the revision pages are focused on theme and characters, which the exam questions are...
