What do teachers say about this resource? (7058)

This was a solid, accessible and accurate resource giving a clear summary of the text, its characters and themes. The chapter by chapter walkthrough picked out key quotes and parts of the text that were commented upon and discussed further in relation to the text as a whole.

It was very straightforward - it does what it says on the tin! For a pupil or a time-pressed teacher it would give exactly the right level of knowledge to support further study of the text and gave some useful questions and activities to prompt and stimulate further thought and engagement with the text and its themes.

It enhances learning through giving pupils a good basis of knowledge which they could use to support their understanding of the text and also develop their knowledge further. Its educational value lies in its ability to support pupils in understanding what happens in the text whilst also giving them ample opportunities to take that knowledge and dig a little deeper.

J Hathaway, Head of English & Peer Reviewer

A well written and clearly articulated resource for students... It's synopsis is a good length and the activity tasks address character in detail throughout. Since characterisation is a key part of the novels’ intention and didactic approach I think this is a valuable resource... Relationships between characters are discussed well within the context of excerpts... Themes such as ‘power and money’ divided into categories like this will enable classroom teaching at a relevant standard. Teachers can use these themes and chapter breakdowns to select aspects of the resource relevant to differentials and age ranges... Messages of the novel are addressed clearly... Settings are given time and space within the teaching resources as is the style and language of the novel... Critical style of the novel is addressed, both in terms of descriptive examples and quotations, and tips and tasks for developing practical skills... The relationship between text and context is adequately addressed. Extensive discussions of key moments within the novel will help teachers select relevant excepts for focus group work.

H Gravestock, Peer Reviewer

It covers the key themes and provides character notes.
