A lovely resource which would engage my students... Would help students to become involved with the language used through directed questions. A good resource for exam-based lessons.
The questions are excellent and ideal for focusing SATs teaching - would also be very good for cover lessons. The stories are interesting and I like the way they are focused on the writer's own experience - students will like this.
It certainly should prove interesting and thought-provoking to students. The difference in styles of writing are certainly a very strong point... They teach the students different methods of approaching descriptive writing and subject treatment... 'The baby sitter' [is] a very strong, descriptive piece, full of thought-provoking scenes conjuring up visualisations (very much in the style of some of the major novel writers when they set scenes). 'As she woke' [is] a very good example of descriptive writing around a single subject... 'A pink ribbon' [is] a great piece to help develop individual writing styles and creativity!... A good resource.
These resources, with their comprehension tasks fit in well with the KS3 scheme of work as the SATs examinations ask similar types of questions. The resources will encourage reading and writing skills too... The babysitting story was well written and gripping.
I enjoyed reading this resource and could easily see it fitting into a scheme of work. It was clear and used personal experience for the creative juices to flow... as the pupils are expected to do.
Very accessible for KS3... Clear questions and creative writing suggestions... Focuses closely on how language shapes meaning.
