Murder Mysteries: KS3 Scheme of Work

KS3 Resource Pack and Scheme of Work

Give your students the confidence and expertise to plan and write their own murder mystery!

The variety of activities for students are very good and they clearly identify skills in language areas

J Churchill, Teacher & Peer Reviewer

Ready-to-go twelve lesson scheme of work, with engaging activities and worksheets. Introduces students to:

  • The conventions of a classic and exciting genre, the 'murder mystery'
  • The writing skill of English author, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
  • The most famous fictional detective, Sherlock Holmes

The scheme is based on the study of two texts:

  • A Sherlock Holmes short story
  • Another murder mystery of your choosing

So flexible!

  • The scheme works with any Sherlock Holmes short story, as non text-specific worksheets are provided.
  • However: Worksheets specific to Sherlock Holmes short story 'The Adventure of the Norwood Builder' are provided so the scheme is completely ready-to-go! Full text also provided

Very flexible for individual teachers' interpretations...

...it provides a framework for teachers to use it as they wish, whether with the story that is included, or to apply it to another by ACD

What do teachers say about this resource? (4260)

An excellent resource; very flexible for individual teachers' interpretations. I particularly liked the SoW as it provides a framework for teachers to use it as they wish, whether with the story that is included, or to apply it to another by ACD. The variety of activities for students are very good and they clearly identify skills in language areas. They also will highlight areas of students' weaknesses where required.

I really like the scheme and think it is easy to follow. I like the simplicity of the worksheets and instructions for students and the fact that the text is within the resource unlike many other similar ones when you have to go hunting for the text. I feel there is a lot of educational value within the resource. It hits many of the NC criteria and has the potential to be used with many year groups/levels.
