What do teachers say about this resource? (3834)
The notes for the teacher are excellent. They are an in-depth analysis of each poem enabling teachers, especially non-specialists, to gain a detailed knowledge of each poem and teach the main features of the poem effectively. Each poem is methodically analysed and a thorough understanding could be achieved by pupils. There are comprehensive notes to ensure teachers focus on the important technical features in the poems and information to explore the themes in the poems, for example through debates. The worksheets also provide excellent follow up for pupils.
It guides students through an appreciation of the poem in a very structured way. The tasks are achievable and challenging at the same time. I particularly like the range of activities that students are invited to do. The teacher notes mean that even teachers inexperienced with poetry can feel confident about delivering the lesson content. Would I purchase this resource? Definitely. I think it's the kind of resource I'd use on a weekly/fortnightly basis through the year to get students used to annotating and analysing poems.
I really liked the resource as it had the convenience of the poems, worksheets and comprehensive teacher notes. It is well written and aimed at the audience. I particularly liked the detail in the teacher notes - I feel that I could give this to inexperienced staff and they would be confident to follow the tasks. I felt that there was a wide variety of tasks and questioning that allowed all pupils access.
I loved the range and choice of poetry included here and I think this resource offers good grounding for Key Stage Four. Teachers' notes were comprehensive in terms of the poems themselves.
The writer has obviously put a lot of time and effort into providing a comprehensive resource on rhythm in poetry.
I like the style of the text and the approach of the author when writing the resource. The link with language work and general culture is useful and appropriate, allowing pupils to easily link the literary world with reality. The teacher's notes are well structured and informed but not definitive which still allows the essential input of the teacher's own thoughts. Nonetheless, there is sufficient information there for the less qualified teacher or even a cover/supply teacher to work from.
I think that it is useful to enable students to explore poetry and see it from different points of view. I think it challenges students to think rather than encourages passive learning. It helps students get to grips with different approaches to poetry.
