A brilliant resource - it has so many fun and original activities to get pupils active and excited about writing... It scaffolds, gives examples and develops confidence in young writers... I really like the layout – it is easy to follow... it covers a wide range of writing and develops skills... Keep writing these please
This is an inspired resource, but with the logical approach and step-by-step approach that is needed for students that don't take naturally to imaginative writing. Furthermore, the suggested tasks are not at all restraining, even if students are often guided quite closely by the planning stage.
The lesson plans are clear and concise, and varying in difficulty - very pleased to see that these are not prescriptive in Key Stage or ability.
Suggested homework tasks are an excellent idea that are too often missed off lesson plans; furthermore, they are realistic, ranging from completing a task finished in class through to developing a new piece of work using new skills.
A resource packed full of ideas and a lot of very motivating activities!... Alternative, quirky and fun exercises which stimulate participation in discussions and give pupils ideas for writing... these activities create memorable learning experiences for the pupils; an admirable achievement.The author has chosen many topics which are fun and motivating for discussion... this resource stimulates enjoyment and participation in English lessons. Enthusiasm and motivation would be enhanced by using the ideas in this resource in lessons. Pupils would look forward to the discussions in this resource... The resource is clearly laid out. The lesson plan for each lesson is easy to follow and the consistent layout makes it easy to teach from. Worksheets are concise to reduce photocopying costs.
A very imaginative resource which would be enjoyed by both teachers and pupils. I enjoyed reading it and found it inspiring. It has all the elements of a good teaching resource: comprehensive, self-explanatory, well-organised, lots of examples, allows flexibility... I liked the tasks, which met the author’s aims of being imaginative, challenging and interesting. The teacher notes were consistent and comprehensive, and would be easy to facilitate. I liked the humour and the fact that it was relevant to today’s young people... It has been carefully mapped to the curriculum and takes into account cross-curricular teaching. It stimulates imaginative writing and discussion and will empower learners by helping them become more articulate both verbally and on the page... It was very refreshing to find a resource which allows exploration of creative writing in an imaginative and fun way, yet meets curriculum requirements for English.
Clear and precise, these lessons are well-prepared and easy to deliver... The ideas are imaginative and interesting... There are resources that are accessible and appropriate for a range of ages and abilities... The resources cover a wide range of the skills necessary for both end of KS3 and GCSE writing assessments. They also provide pupils with writing skills applicable to real-life situations. I think the clarity of the language is a real positive and will enhance the learning experience for less-able pupils... The lesson plans are perfect, clear and easy to understand...I think that it matches our KS3 needs particularly well... Some of the tasks are complex and demanding enough to be used at GCSE and could even be extended to be used as a piece of coursework... this is a valuable and well-organised resource. The inclusion of the assessment focus in the lesson plan is particularly useful for setting lesson objectives and I think that the ideas are original and inspirational which exactly the sort of resource we want to use when teaching writing skills.
A good, practical set of structured teaching ideas... I liked the way teachers' planning sheets were readily prepared and the variety of practical ideas for teaching writing skills... It enhances learning by guiding students through planning their writing with specific activities aimed at enriching their writing product... Presentation and layout are excellent. Worksheets for students are very visual with a wide variety of text-boxes, diagrams and graphics used to make the sheets particularly student-friendly... It is very valuable in the initial stages of students developing writing skills in preparation for GCSE.
Very clear and that there were some fantastic imaginative writing ideas... I particularly liked that the resource encouraged students to think 'outside the box' with their writing, to be original and not to use cliché... this resource would enhance learning by giving lots of very original ideas. They are also quite relevant to students, particularly the Rave Reviews and flowcharts... very useful and original.
Thorough... good, well-presented resource... 'I liked the underlying humour dealing with subject matters like the preparing for a date — yet still retaining factual teaching points. Structure useful for lesson organisation and planning... Each type of writing is covered in detail. There are ideas for children to look at sensory based language (often good when they cannot develop their writing) and also how to set out letters, writing to advise etc. This enhances their knowledge about how to write for different audiences... It is fresh and appealing to the teacher and to students... It matches National curriculum targets and could be adapted for GCSE. The 'writing for different audiences'is covered well... The tasks are divided logically for ease of assessment... I liked the cross-curricular ideas... The sound bites are memorable and aid learning... The starter activities are excellent
Varied and engaging for lower ability students... Saves time when planning.
