A Taste of Honey: GCSE Study Guide

With accessible themes of responsibility, friendship, education, marriage and single motherhood, A Taste of Honey is a story to savour. Sample every surprising scene with this concise resource offering targeted notes and analysis to lead students through the play.

It is brilliant! I even began to think Shelagh Delaney must have written it because it was so insightful and detailed

S Mann, HoD & Peer Reviewer (GCSE edition)

What do teachers say about this resource? (11620, 12432)

A well-rounded approach, combining literary analysis, contextual knowledge, and key quotations. Clearly designed with GCSE-level learners in mind and supports AO2 and AO3 objectives effectively. The social context page for Blood Brothers is rich in historical detail and connects well to character motivations and themes. It’s especially helpful for students who struggle to see how context shapes narrative. The breakdown of key quotes with page references and analysis is practical and student-friendly. It encourages close reading and supports revision. The inclusion of character illustrations and clear headings helps visual learners and makes the resource more engaging. The resource aligns well with the AQA GCSE English Literature specification, particularly in its support for: AO2, AO3 and AO1. Overall, the resource interprets the specification with clarity and relevance, and it’s well-suited to classroom use and revision.
It’s a solid foundation for classroom use and revision, particularly for mixed-ability groups. With a few tweaks, it could be even more versatile.

N Patel, Teacher & Peer Reviewer

I liked this resource a lot. It's really comprehensive and could be used to support the full range of student ability... This resource covers many bases. There is structured and supportive information to help the less able, and more open-ended and challenging activities (the 'active learning' sections especially)... I really like the structure, and the layout supports this very effectively... I would recommend it to anyone teaching this play (including for A Level – there's a lot of very useful stuff here).

I really liked it and would certainly use it... It was a very clear guide to the text, with probing discussion points which would get learners thinking. I like the discuss, did you know and key terms boxes, which will stimulate classroom engagement and inform learners... Very clear analysis and character studies are useful throughout... It is excellent and offers good ideas for exam practice and also for role plays and group work for speaking and listening.

Jo Orford, Teacher & Peer Reviewer (previous edition)

A superb resource that has brought an old text very much back to life. I loved the little discussion points, and teacher tips... This is a great resource... I think it has enormous value to any teacher who wants to teach all or part of the text regardless of exam spec... The layout is structured in a perfect sequence for teaching, but equally allows you to dip in and out as and when needed... I do not think this resource could be improved upon. It is brilliant! I even began to think Shelagh Delaney must have written it because it was so insightful and detailed... I can't praise this highly enough. Clearly a lot of research, thought and hard work have gone into this. I wish I had written it.
