Help students to understand the content of the four A Level AQA themes in a more visually engaging way!

Designed for A Level AQA students to revise topic knowledge for:

  • Paper 1: Listening, Reading and Writing
  • Paper 3: Speaking

Students gain topical, cultural and contextualised insight while developing key skills through 9 summary and 9 activity pages. Provided as A3 and A4 sheets for tailored revision!

Why is 9 the magic number?

Each pack covers 1 AQA theme, and each of the 3 topics is broken down into 3 subtopics for extensive coverage presented in a digestible format.

Enable students to build understanding with sections on…
Vocabulary Subtopic Knowledge Culture

Glossary: key vocab tests and improves understanding

Language in Context: reading text contextualises vocab to enable further topic insight

Cultural Diversity: provides multicultural perspectives from different TL countries for broader understanding

Debate: encourages students to give and justify opinions

Did you Know?: provides interesting learning/discussion point

Plus! Information on TL countries is interwoven into all subtopics throughout.

Helpful Expressions: promotes more sophisticated conversation

Additional Sources: help students conduct further research and discover interesting materials in the TL

How do the activity pages work?

Based on each summary sheet they promote active subtopic revision through exam-based skills:

  • Comprehension questions in the target language
  • Summarising the information in the text
  • Translation
  • Gap fill
  • True or false questions
  • Multiple choice questions
  • Debate and general conversation
  • Research and presentation

Flexible use! Hand out to students at the end of the course or at the end of each topic for revision or homework – or provide as independent study.

What do teachers say about this resource? (11764)

I loved this resource and think that my students will too. It is relevant, user-friendly and engaging. A really valuable revision resource for any A level student! In particular, the most useful aspects for me are that they cover the AQA topics and subtopics in a clear and focused way and provide quick access to relevant and up-to-date facts and statistics for the speaking exam. The list of skills covered on the teachers’ page makes it very clear that students can use these pages to practise a range of skills and the topic per page format is ideal for the way that we are encouraging our students to revise for French. This will also encourage self-assessment and self-quizzing, as a whole class, with a partner or at home. I liked that the cultural information is inclusive and covers francophone countries other than France. This is something that students often struggle to find concrete examples of in their own answers. The additional sources offer a nice challenge for more able/enthusiastic students and I can see how this might be used to give students ideas for their IRP. Most importantly, the language and structures included are also carefully planned and are appropriate and challenging enough to prepare them well for paper 1 and 3. The layout of the pages are clear and engaging, students will enjoy using them for revision. I also liked that there is a choice of format, which is a nice practical touch, with answers provided. Clearly, a lot of thought and planning has gone into making these pages.

The novel format for this resource will make revising less of a chore for A level pupils. This is an up-to-date set of materials for the topics covered which is useful when a text book starts to look out of date. It’s a nice way of giving pupils a resource which they can work on independently as well as in class. This flexibility is great and is very useful for teachers to set as homework or revision, especially for study leave. I really like the choice of words for the glossaries – a lot of thought has gone into these and the up-to-date nature of much of the vocabulary makes the resource feel modern and current. The ideas for songs and films for each topic area is a great idea so pupils can further their French as well as relax. All skills are covered which is quite a feat when covering so much in a short space! It is bang on the topic requirements and the author has clearly gone to a lot of effort to introduce pupils to these topics in the francophone world, not just in France. The all-important requirement to include cultural information in the speaking exam is also addressed with some interesting and useful snippets in the Did you know? sections.

J Briden, HoD & Peer Reviewer

I think that this is an excellent resource that is well suited for A-level students as they prepare for their exams. The resource could be used in class as a knowledge organiser with students referring to it as they try to develop the range of vocabulary that they use, or the complexity of grammar structures. There is a wealth of factual information that covers a range of Francophone countries, which is refreshing as it adds more variety to the info we usually refer to using our AS/A2 textbooks. I particularly like the additional sources (chansons and films) and the factual information provided through the language in context, Did you Know? sections. We are constantly looking for ways to encourage our students to engage with French culture, which might inspire them tp pursue a language degree, so these references to popular culture whilst being linked to core content is truly valuable. The key expressions section in places reinforces some very useful structures such as the subjunctive, expressions of comparison and then provides some good exercises to consolidate those expressions. I could definitely see us using the information pages in lessons to support the units we are teaching and then students complete the activities as part of their independent study, which they could then self-mark. Overall, it is a very versatile resource.

J Hulland, Head of MFL & Peer Reviewer

I liked it a lot, actually. Personally, I would use the resource as a homework after having completed the learning of that topic in lesson. The up-to-date statistics were my favourite; it would save teachers a lot of time from having to look up facts and current affairs themselves, which can be really time-consuming. I also ended up really liking the fact that there were a variety of different activities to be done with the information; reading, speaking, vocab, complex language, even some listening resources are linked, which is super. I do like the signposting of students towards authentic resources on the subject. I think that this would be a really useful resource to give to A Level students after a topic has been studied as a reminder of some of the main content points from that unit. There is a reading text on each unit, with different activities, which is great for exam-skills practice, as well as having current information regarding the issues that are addressed in the course. The inclusion of complex language in the context of the topic is also useful. The debate section will help massively with the speaking exam as well.
