Health & Social Care Teachers – Freelance Author Opportunity (Remote, Flexible)

Write from home | Work around your schedule | Get published

Have you taught a health-related subject like Health and Social Care, Psychology, or related sciences? Looking for a meaningful way to share your expertise beyond the classroom – while working on your own terms?

We’re looking for teachers (current, former, or retired) to join our growing network of freelance education writers. You’ll help shape engaging teaching and learning materials for secondary schools and FE colleges – all from the comfort of your own home.

What you will gain:

  • Get published – develop the teaching resources you’re creating anyway, with support and feedback to help you take them to a professional standard.
  • Earn royalties – receive 12.5% on all sales of your published resources. Top resources are eligible for Gold (15%) and Diamond (16%) rates. Authors of multiple titles may receive Outstanding Author Awards with bonus payments.
  • Make an impact – your own published material will help future learners succeed in their qualifications.
  • Boost your career – particularly valuable for those preparing to move into management or changing roles, as it builds curriculum expertise, strategic thinking, communication skills, and encourages creative thinking beyond the classroom.
  • Professional collaboration – gain experience working alongside an experienced Education Editor and receive constructive feedback from fellow teachers and subject specialists to refine and strengthen your resources.
  • Creative freedom – opportunity to develop your own resource ideas and/or contribute to a specific project brief.

You focus on the content, we handle the rest – we take care of technical checking, formatting, proofreading, marketing, and distribution.

What we’re looking for:

  • Detailed, wide-ranging knowledge of Health and Social Care
  • A creative flair for making complex concepts into clear, accessible and engaging content
  • Excellent written communication and ability to adapt through feedback

Skills & Qualifications

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Teaching experience in secondary or further education (e.g. Health and Social Care, Psychology, Science or related subjects), ideally with a PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification
  • A strong interest in the subject area (including up-to-date knowledge of any recent developments), backed up with an excellent academic record
  • Strong research and analysis skills, with great attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently, and to communicate ideas and knowledge with clarity
  • Ability to write in a creative, yet clear and coherent style

Minimum Qualification Level Required

  • 2:1 or higher in a health-related degree (e.g. BSc in Health and Social Care / BA in Social work / BN Nursing / BSc Psychology)
  • An A in a relatable A Level (e.g. Psychology, Biology) or a distinction in a Level 3 qualification (e.g. BTEC Nationals in Health and Social Care), plus two other A Levels (or equivalent) at Grade C or above.
  • GCSE English at Grade C/5 or above

Additional Desirable Requirements

  • Practical experience in a Health Care or Social Care setting (e.g. healthcare assistant, social worker, nurse, physiotherapy, clinical researcher)
  • Experience of writing in a professional context, e.g. freelance educational writing
