What do teachers say about this resource? (9746)
Excellent... I particularly like the clarity and visual attractiveness... At a glance, they can comprehend the links that exist within the 3 core ideologies... It allows for shared discussion and detailed knowledge about complex ideological issues... Get them!
Highly impressed. Exceptional amount of information within the resource but helps make the complexity of the ideologies appear more accessible. ... Breaks down and makes more obvious to the students the key aspects of the specification. Without diluting the main points it condenses a text book into logical and readable section of work... Impressed that so much information can be conveyed in 10 pages... Particular like the Liberal page which directly takes the exam sub sections of human nature, state, society, economy... a fabulous overview.
A wonderful resource. I am really impressed with the 'Topic on a Page' series of resources and this has allowed us as a department to really work to a differentiated scheme of work... a. The ideologies timeline is superb and perfect for our visual learners. b. The key thinkers cards are excellent - short and sweet and perfect for revision sessions c. The individual pages on each principle of the core ideologies is excellent - all the key information in a simple format to understand - perfect for low ability students d. The excellent blank pages which encourage revision and peer-work are perfect for a starter task in a revision session... perfectly tailored towards the low-ability students who struggle to grasp the reams of writing in a textbook or written resource - they are able to access the core principles and disagreements within and between conservatism, liberalism and socialism without feeling as though the writing is too heavy. They are effectively ready-made revision posters and could even be displayed around the classroom as prompts for the students. The educational value is therefore enormous and will be vital in our future planning of ideology teaching... perfectly matches the specification and what is expected of the students. It covers the content well and puts this across in a superb format which doesn't include irrelevant information. It is a superb resource.
What do teachers say about this resource? (10073)
This is a fresh, clever and valuable resource. I like this a lot and I think that my students would find this sort of resource very easy to read and help with their revision and understanding... They are an invaluable resource for students with their understanding and can be used as starters, plenaries or help with essay planning as each topic is carefully put on one page - every single student in my class would receive a copy of these such is their educational importance in my opinion. Simply put - I don't believe that any good Politics Teacher would be able to improve upon or produce a resource anywhere near as good and clear as this.
For last minute revision it’s ideal eg I’ve just been given a student who’s retaking in October and it should give her confidence ... There was a good use of boxes and I liked the scales, and the fact that similar topics were paralleled as regards presentation ... It enhances learning by highlighting key terms and phrases and the visual content eg images, photos stopped it being too dry. Its educational value would be to help especially the less able by providing frameworks and giving a balanced, two-sided approach ... there are sound examples eg 1.3; 2.1 is excellent on definitions and the parallel setting out of parties is helpful; 3.1 makes a difficult topic clear
This resource presents a significant amount of content in an easily accessible way for students... A highlight are the case studies for the 1979, 1997 and 2017 elections. Students often find Section 4.1 hard to digest and understand but this resource presents the information in succinct and reliable way... Section 3.1 on the FPTP, SV, AMS and STV electoral systems is presented so as reduce the amount of content students are presented with... Section 3.2 on referendums provides useful case studies for students to use as examples when evaluating the advantages and problems of referendums as used in the UK... ideal for revision purposes but also as 'retrieval practice'. Teachers can use this resource for students to regularly test their knowledge of current and past topics
Really nice idea with all on one page, easy for students to follow and easy for teacher to access and deliver... Good summary of topics, especially useful for those struggling with the concepts ... Will be a good revision activity, especially for lower ability
What do teachers say about this resource? (11016, 11017, 11018)
Posters to fill in are absolutely brilliant ... Loved the presentation and layout ... very good for students who enjoy visual and kinaesthetic activities
I am a big fan of the TOAP series and this doesn't disappoint. It is potentially an excellent resource which will be of huge value to the students during the revision activities ... I like that the key points have been boiled down to simple English so that the Students can see, at a glance, the key areas that they need to revise e.g. the Key Thinkers on one page can sometimes be of help revision-wise then reading reams and reams of information which doesn't always sink in! I always like the blank sheets because Students can then add their own bits of information if they feel something has been left out or they simply want to add to what is already written. It is an excellent format ... I feel that this is best used for Revision and so would be used at the end of each ideology or during revision sessions. It is a great way to get down everything onto an A3 sheet which Students can use as a quick reference. Textbooks and more detailed resources are of course useful in addition to this but sometimes, all Students need is to be able to reference something quickly and then look at it in more detail later on. The help that this resource can give to revision is huge and the layout is already completed for Students saving time in this area too. Essentially, this has been designed with Students in mind ... It is written with the Edexcel specification in mind and so matches it perfectly. Nothing included is irrelevant nor unnecessary. I find this to be the case particularly with the key thinkers. It is easy to go overboard with the key thinkers and put almost everything possible about them into resources but here, the Students have the information that they need to know, where they stand within their respective ideologies and how their views interlink/oppose with competing views within their ideologies
A useful addition to the resources available. The contents were well set out and there was variety between the summary material/activities/mind maps ... It enhances learning by providing a lifeline for the less able and would give them some basic confidence. Its educational value is that it can be used in a variety of contexts eg homework, revision, tests, in class or at home. I found the layout/presentation helpful particularly for visual learners.
What do teachers say about this resource? (10077)
Very effective revision tool. Well laid out and engages the learner. Topics easily identified allowing for effective revision... The graphics were well laid out and broke each topic down in manageable segments... It is quite a contrast to typical 'A Level notes' so provides the learner with high standard information but laid out in a short, sharp manner. All key components of the specification are covered giving the learner confidence ... Would I purchase this resource?
Absolutely.
I am really pleased that this has come to Politics - these resources are superb ... students have been nothing but complimentary... superbly put together... very well organised and students can clearly see the key information... The 'How the Constitution has changed' sheet is fantastic - really good overview and everything the students need to know. The Legislative Process section is also extremely well explained - again, the students loved this part and felt it was one of the best explanations of the key process... For the low attainers, this is absolutely superb. It boils down the specification content into a nice and simple worksheet which is easy to follow and can be used towards planning essays. These can be used as classroom displays as well as starter tasks for further reinforcement. For the higher attainers, it is a start which can be developed upon with further knowledge and examples. It is a vital and superb resource... Magnificent - wonderfully visual and put together. A triumph of presentation and layout! Students and Teachers can be secure in the knowledge that the resources are fully in line with Edexcel's specifications.
What do teachers say about this resource? (10502)
An accurate, reliable and efficient summary of the subject content from Component 3. Given the substantial increase in content [in] the new specification for Edexcel Politics, this resource allows students to have a concise resource that they can easily and efficiently access for revision purposes or in preparation for an end of topic test ... The resource provides succinct definitions of the key terminology that students are expected to have a sound knowledge and understanding of... The ‘Topic on a Page’ for US Federalism outlines the structure of the federal and state government in a way that students can easily comprehend. This is an area that students regularly struggle to understand ... The decision to format the [Congress] process as stages breaks down what is a challenging feature of the specification into manageable chunks... Of particular benefit is [the] focus on... the factors that impact the power of the executive while in office... The ‘Topic on a Page’ for the Supreme Court is exceptional and manages to cover the whole section 4... it efficiently outlines the judicial review process, judicial hierarchy and appointment process... This resource absolutely aids and enhances learning. There is substantial evidence that suggests that teachers should reduce ‘cognitive load’ and the amount of information that students are presented with. This resource is also a type of ‘knowledge organiser’ that allows students to use for revision purposes.
This is one of the best resources that ZigZag has ever produced for Politics. It is both simple and detailed in the same breath. Students who struggle with wordy resources will find this very easy to follow and to utilise in their revision... it captures the very key and relevant information for the US Politics unit and allows students to see the links between topics. It has been carefully written and developed and allows students of all abilities to utilise in ways that suit them. The key terms are excellent - very useful to guide students towards the relevant information on the page. The strengths and weaknesses section for legislation is also pleasing - students only need to revise 3 or 4 in detail and this can guide them towards the key points. The comparative approaches page is good - again the key points are covered. A good overview of points for students to take on board... Its versatility makes it valuable educationally. For the more able, I would ask them to stretch the information further and work with a student with a lower ability in order to work collaboratively. These can also be used as revision posters which students could even make bigger and put up themselves. I plan to display these around my classroom... Everything that needs to be covered by the specification is included and has been included carefully. This is clearly written in correlation with the specification that students are getting exactly the information that they need. As is always the case, the superb professionalism and care taken provides another fantastic resource.
