A comprehensive and well structured resource to support the teacher. I particularly like this resource because of the exemplar essays and range of activities. The vocabulary used is appropriate to the exam. It prepares students more thoroughly for essay writing and helps me to freshen up my teaching ideas. It is so detailed and goes through the book chapter by chapter. It meets the requirements of the exam. This will make your planning so much easier! The level is suited to the AQA A-Level specification. Tasks are challenging enough for higher ability students.
I thought this resource was very well structured and provided a very good, methodical approach to building up a student’s confidence and understanding of this novel.
Students are given the opportunity to research tasks themselves, and the resource combines reading, writing and speaking tasks. For each chapter comprehension is checked by a variety of tasks – gap fill, explaining the meaning of phrases, translations, open questions, true or false, odd one out, synonyms, who says what and more extended writing.
A very good interpretation of the specification, covering structure, technique, characterisation, themes, symbolism, significance and ending. The suggested essays are appropriate in terms of exam requirement.
On the whole, I think that it is a great resource as it provides lots of opportunity to improve students´confidence in answering in-depth questions regarding the short novel “El Coronel no tiene quien le escriba” with regards to the novel´s plot, characters, sociocultural context etc. In addition, the resource will boost students Spanish language acquisition and comprehension skills through the use of lots of motivating, relevant and engaging exercises. The resource also gives students plenty of chances to practice their grammar and their vocabulary for Spanish A level.
This resource is written in a clear way that it is easy to understand by the A Level students from different specifications. This resource enhances learning with all the diversity of activities offered. The educational value comes from the tasks focused specifically on developing students’ oral, written and reading skills (...) There is also a huge amount of cultural information on Colombia and Latin America.
Clearly structured with exam boards in mind, it contains sections on themes, characterisation and structure. It is therefore relevant, and pitched at the right level linguistically.
I like the clarity and the structure, the chapter summary, the use of quotes, how it helps the student develop their own analyses (...) The killer phrases are fantastic!
