Translation Practice for AS and A Level AQA Spanish

Help students master the complexities of translation through an understanding of how grammar, vocabulary and transference of meaning work together in an idiomatic way.

What do teachers say about this resource? (9804)

Truly impressed by the quality of this resource. So much work has been put into it and I can see many ways of using it which would have a positive impact on pupils’ confidence and hopefully attainment! The resource is extremely well-designed. All topics from the specifications covered, which is useful, and the way each unit is organised flows well and can be used in many ways : independent work, classwork, group work, cover work, intervention. I can definitely see myself using this resource with my classes.I particularly like the build-up to the actual translation. We often tend to forget that students may need scaffolding to tackle translation tasks and I believe each exercise prior to the actual exam-type questions would support students and make them more successful in the long run.

I Rodriguez, HoD and Peer Reviewer

I am very impressed by the great quality of the resource: I particularly like all the tips given to students throughout the whole resource on how to tackle the rather difficult skills of translating from English to Spanish or the other way around. I like the approach of focusing first on vocabulary and individual words and grammar and then to tackle sentences and texts. I find the resource very useful indeed.

J Ermina, Teacher, Examiner & Peer Reviewer

I think that this is a fantastic resource which provides a very thorough coverage of the topics covered in the AQA A level year 2 specification. The exercises are varied and there are lots of hints and tips to help students develop their linguistic skills as they work through the exercise. This resource would be equally suitable as an independent resource or as a resource to work through in lessons. I think that the resource is extremely relevant to the specification ultimately by the fact that it coveres the themes of year 2 Spanish immigration, racism, convivencia, los movimientos populares, los jovenes hoy en día and monarchies and dictatorships.

F Lintern, Head of MFL & Peer Reviewer

Really useful...it saves me looking for many examples and it takes you step by step

What do teachers say about this resource? (8698)

Simply amazing! So well thought and structured. Definitely a must have to develop translation skills.

M C Morote Beltán, Teacher and Peer Reviewer

An excellent resource overall, which is specifically tailored to the AQA Year 1 specification. A very comprehensive set of activities provided, developing a wide range of grammatical skills, not just translation. Activities are progressive and allow students to develop lexical as well as grammatical knowledge. The end of unit translations into and out of Spanish are written in the style of the examination papers. With a new specification one of the challenges is having relevant and up to date resources for the new topics. This means that there is always something that can be used in class with my students, or can be used by them for private study.

D Sutton, Head of MFL and Peer Reviewer

Very engaging and useful. It focuses on challenging linguistic structures within key themes and it enables students to gain further understanding of idiomatic structures which cannot be translated literally. It is very challenging and very well structured and it ties in perfectly with AQA specifications.
