Learning Grids for A Level Edexcel B Biology
A fantastic way to support weaker learners!
Students read their textbooks/notes to complete a grid of questions in exact specification order.
The structured and active learning method helps students understand the key points and build confidence.
Brilliant for students who learn best by doing. Dramatically improves learning for learners in need of additional support; highly motivating.
I can’t wait to see more of these for the other topics.
- Requires minimal teacher planning and input – great for cover lessons
- An easy-to-set, valuable homework option
- Pinpoint topic strengths and weaknesses for targeted support
- Includes 'experiment time' questions to consolidate practical skills
Each Learning Grid includes:
- Quick-testing questions
- Diagram and graph questions
- Missing information / Matching key terms

What do teachers say about this resource? (8082)
Covers the specification well without being too detailed and ‘texty’. I can see it being useful in many different ways (homework, revision, workshops, cover lessons, support for students who struggle to make structured, organised notes in class or independently).
I particularly liked:
• references to relevant textbook pages for each section (both Pearson and Hodder)
• questions such as ‘identify differences’ are good preparation for exams
• it has the flexibility to use it as a whole or break it up into smaller sections as you work through the topic.
• there is a range of question types (gap fill, short answer, diagrams, matching etc).
• images and fun facts are engaging and interesting
There is nothing about the resource I particularly disliked.
The resource would enhance learning by allowing students to focus on key points from each part of the topic and build confidence with recall of subject knowledge. The completed resource could be used as a set of revision notes and revision guide which students could use when practicing exam papers in class or at home.
The layout is user friendly and encourages students to focus on giving concise answers that fit into the boxes. Love the inclusion of instructions like “in no more than 3 sentences” to help achieve this!
The resource interprets the specification well and gives good coverage of key facts and terminology. Practical skills are also included in the section on enzymes.
