What do teachers say about this resource? (7135)
Detailed and comprehensive. It provides an excellent overview of the salient themes and issues in the drama and it provides a great starting point for students to consider the contextual elements of the playwright’s background (I was surprised to find some original facts that I had not uncovered from my own research into developing resources for my A Level class). The “Living Museum” Practical Activity is an excellent idea for pupils to take ownership of their learning and produce a presentation, which is innovative and thought provoking. I was very impressed with the research on the original staging of the performance on Broadway in 1928. The information surrounding Arthur Hopkins and his philosophy of theatre was illuminating... It encourages pupils to become independent learners. It provides an ideal platform for students to make the leap from GCSE to A Level much more manageable... It is a useful starting point for teachers who are grappling with a relatively unheard of playwright and trying to conceptualise this innovative and intense performance style known as Expressionism... The activities would provide teachers with ample resources to help prepare them for the delivery and design of the unit of assessment. This would be especially beneficial to time-pressed teachers.
This is a clear, concise and innovative resource that offers a range of opportunities for the students across the different A-Level specifications identified. The language used is appropriate for the target audience and examples are consistently offered throughout the body of the resource for complete clarity. The author has clearly spent a lot of time considering how to tackle the text in a way that is accessible for a range of ability levels. There is a consistent offer of directed questioning as relevant to the learning outcomes and both practical/ theoretical study has been included. This is a fantastic resource!!
