The analysis in this resource will be invaluable for both teachers and students. The thematic content of all the works is taken apart and explained and there are tasks all the way through to engage students. Points that guide students towards the sorts of things that examiners ask are extremely useful... [Matches the spec] very well – particularly the exam-style questions at the end of the resource. Makes the differences in expectation between AS and A Level very clear. Analysis throughout is excellent. It’s the only resource of its kind available at the moment, so is very very welcome!
An invaluable resource for students... The quality of writing, analytical content and the author’s knowledge of Baroque music are excellent. The analytical content is outstanding and provides a breadth of information that is very useful for our students. This is a very good example of how to analyse a piece of music based on the questions required to be answered in the exam. Depth of musical knowledge is communicated in a way that students can understand. The “Listen up” tasks are particularly good – encouraging students to broaden their knowledge of particular styles and understand further the context.
A very comprehensive analysis of the Baroque Solo Concertos... I particularly like the activities... There is useful information at the back about how to answer questions along with revision tips, example essays and practise questions themselves... [This resource] has all of the information you need to be able to teach and for students to learn about the three concertos required for section B of the AQA exam... An excellent resource... It has a strong educational value and provides a valuable learning tool for an area that does not have a lot of resources. There are clear comparisons reflecting how the concerto develops over the Baroque period and how the works compare with and contrast one another. I particularly liked the suggested recordings and the links to modern and period performances... I also liked the consolidation questions at the end of sections. This resource is going to be extremely helpful in developing resources to support the teaching of this new syllabus. I would recommend this to other AS/A level teachers developing resources for these set works.
