What do teachers say about this resource? (11228)

The resource is well presented and is a time saver for Year 9 teachers of Spanish. There is plenty to do for students at home and the activities are varied as well, which will make Spanish homework more fun to complete!

Students get the chance to delve deeper and discover more facets of topics covered in class. On top of offering the answers at the end, the activities offer examples, so that students can work independently. In addition to this, instructions are in both languages, which is good practice at KS3/Y9. It also covers cultural & historical topics of the broader Spanish-speaking world.

This is a very valuable resource for Spanish teachers and saves a lot of time to HODs and curriculum leaders, due to the variety of activities and sources students get to use.
All instructions are in both languages, which enhances understanding of the exam rubrics.

The resource matches the content typically covered in Year 9 Spanish. It covers a range of tenses across various exercise types, which stretches higher-ability students and it’s packed with relevant vocabulary.

In general, I would say that this is an excellent resource because it has a wide variety of texts that cover a wide range of contexts and skills to help lead to success in year 9 and the GCSE Spanish exams. It has also appropriate translation tasks following the new specification.

I like also that there are a variety of sources for the texts, as some are about South America, like in the case of the Argentinian tango or about Lima in Peru. Some of the texts include diverse, non-stereotypical types of people, such as gay couples, which is something very good to see.

I love the novel way of encouraging students to do translations by using the “Spanglish” method,, consisting of students having to translate a text which has a mixture of Spanish and English. Students then rewrite and translate the whole text in both Spanish and in English, which I think it is a great exercise.

I think that this resource meets fully the demands set out by year 9 and the new GSCE Spanish specification and it provides a nice transition from Key Stage 3 to GCSE.

J Ermina, Teacher and Peer Reviewer

The resource is well-thought out, well-organised and the tasks are clearly laid out and explained. It is very complete and therefore it serves as a great complimentary resource to the textbook.

I particularly like that this resource is very convenient, because of the way it has been designed, to set it as cover work or homework. I also think it is great that there’s an ‘extra’ or ‘extra fun’ task in every single sheet because it encourages differentiation and further learning.

It reviews key content already taught in class, so it helps the students consolidate their knowledge. I also like that it includes cultural aspects (videos) and facts (short explanations) which serve as authentic resources, so it’s not a purely linguistic resource.

It covers all the topics on the specification and I maintain that it serves as a very valuable complimentary resource to the textbook.

What do teachers say about this resource? (7639)

What do teachers say about this resource? (6554)

I would most certainly purchase this resource. As a current year 7 Spanish teacher, I think it would provide me with excellent starter or plenary activities, as well as very good materials to reinforce vocabulary learning and check understanding of key grammar structures. I think that the longer tasks (i.e.: writing) are a magnificent tool to develop learning at home. On another note, I think this particular resource would prove invaluable for teachers involved in year 8 and 9 teaching as a beginning-of-year revision, especially for lower ability groups. Thank you for such a useful resource.

D Medina, Teacher and Peer Reviewer

Fantastic, very well structured, great variety of tasks. It supports students do some cultural research. There are some good comprehension activities that encourage the use of a glossary. I really like how it builds up from word level to sentence level, and how towards the end of the resource there are longer sequences of texts for students to read/translate. The references to Mafalda’a world are also lovely as a cultural touch.

R Bravo, Teacher and Peer Reviewer

I think this resource is very interesting as it is a flexible tool for teachers. It can be understood as a pack of extra material for homework or applied as reinforcement for an inclusive class. I particularly like from this resource the fact that there is a huge variety of activities. I also think the resource is focused on enhancing the translation skills, which is important.

A Puig Casas, Teacher and Peer Reviewer

I think that students will enjoy completing the activities – there is a good mixture of academic and creative tasks. I particularly like the fact that each topic had three worksheets so you could maybe use one for homework and another for a cover lesson. The worksheets cover all the key vocabulary which students need to know and I like the focus on grammar which is going to be essential with the new specification. Personally I think that these resources are just as valuable for cover lessons as for homeworks as I can see how you can just grab a sheet and give it to a class when no work has been set. I also like the fact that there are extension tasks for the more able students to complete.
