A Level Edexcel History Research Grids

Route G: Nationalism, dictatorship and democracy in 20th century Europe

A fantastic way to motivate students!

Students read their notes to complete a grid of questions in exact specification order. Cross-referenced to ZigZag's Teaching Packs to ensure structured study.

I particularly like the layout of the resources, they are clear and easy to use with students

N Barthorpe, Teacher & Peer Reviewer

This organised and active learning method helps students identify the key points and build confidence.

Great for students who learn best by doing. Dramatically improves learning for students in need of additional support.

Exemplar completed grids for easy marking and provide revision notes with full specification coverage!
  • Requires minimal teacher planning and input – ideal for cover lessons
  • An easy-to-set, valuable homework option
  • Pinpoints topic strengths and weaknesses for targeted support

A solid revision resource which does what it says on the tin

What do teachers say about this resource? (5890)

I liked it... Provides reassurance to students, particularly in these testing times... Very good value for money. Helps to make the later period manageable especially as students find the formal approach so challenging

L Ashley, Customer & Head of History

The questions are relevant and the answers are extremely helpful.

Easy to check thanks to the answer document.

Promotes independence and research skills.

The grids come with a handy set of answers. This is a great opportunity for peer assessment of each other's research skills and provides a safety net for students, making the process feel a bit less risky.

Hones research skills so is useful to develop learner's confidence in what is important.

Matches it [specification] very well. Interprets the important knowledge for each theme. The questions are relevant and focus on the key questions highlighted by Edexcel.

J King, Lecturer & Peer Reviewer

A solid revision resource which does what it says on the tin. It provides students with a good overview of the key issues involved and the questions specifically focus on relevant issues to the specification. I like the format as it does reward knowledge and it very clearly signposts for the students' basic issues. It would be a resource valuable for lower level learners... It is clear and concise.

D Edwards, Teacher & Peer Reviewer

I think the resource is well planned and allows students to work through key questions... I particularly like the layout of the resources, they are clear and easy to use with students. Students can work through them independently and understanding can be monitored.

What do teachers say about this resource? (5958)

If set for homework, students come equipped with a foundation of the knowledge to the lesson. It's also ideal for cover lessons as you know that students will actually learn something in a structured and logical way with minimum instruction. This is definitely a way to ensure that students begin each lesson with the appropriate knowledge or, at least know what they need to ask about if they have struggled. Structure and routine is very important and this provides it. Matches [the spec] perfectly, as does the learning pack that goes with it. Really worth getting the two together. I have checked against the spec and it looks ideal. A great resource. Well done.

J King, Teacher & Peer Reviewer

I liked this resource because of the depth it went into.

It would enhance learning by giving students sections to learn, followed by a test. This would also be useful for diagnostic purposes and could also be utilized online.

Its educational value would be to reassure students of their grasp of the material and to indicate their progress to them.

It matches the spec closely.

A useful resource.

L Ashley, Head of History & Peer Reviewer

I find the resource most useful as it helps divide key questions and key aspects of required knowledge into manageable "chunks". I have used a similar approach, and students respond positively - they find such questions useful as they provide accessible building blocks to develop the basic knowledge and understanding required. Once the basics have been mastered, they can move on and consolidate/strengthen their knowledge and understanding.
