I really liked the effective structure of the whole guide which prepares for A2 cultural topic exam and potentially the IB Higher Written assignment
- Before: Introductory tasks prepare students – introduction to Voltaire, grammar and vocabulary exercises, research tasks into contemporary figures and events.
- During: Chapter-by-chapter analysis. Activities include: comprehension questions, research tasks, translation, grammar and vocabulary. By studying grammar and vocabulary in the context of the novel, students develop language skills directly relevant to the exam.
- After: Consolidation with special sections on: themes, characters, Voltaire's style, the use of irony and humour. Exam-style essay questions provide perfect exam preparation.

I think this resource is very complete, really rich. The activities are diversified and the proposal is flexible (some activities can be done orally or practised as written exercises). I love the fact that this resource goes really deep in Voltaire’s philosophic tale, in order to understand it at its several levels. I like also the way you explore the vocabulary. Relevant questions and study of the vocabulary clearly helps the student to learn efficiently and in a smart way. The presence of numerous debates and essays is also valuable in the learning process and a deep understanding of Candide. This resource goes around the book and the author, exploring the ideas trough centuries, and initiating reflection and critical thinking around the different topics. It’s not only a French language and literature resource material, but also a really good teaching resource in favor of open-mindedness and tolerance, humanism and universalism.

I really liked the effective structure of the whole guide which prepares for A2 cultural topic exam and potentially the IB Higher Written assignment. I love the fact that grammar is made relevant with exercises based on sentences extracted from the text. There was a very useful section on specific terms used in the story and matching with definitions. I love the ‘after reading the book’ activities: great way to summarise the events, the characters, the philosophy etc.
