What do teachers say about this resource? (10747)

An outstanding resource - thorough, detailed, well formatted... It would be great for an experienced teacher who wanted a well-constructed topic to fit into a Scheme of Learning, and would very ably support a less-experienced teacher, with clear lesson objectives and plans. Terrific! It is both clear and thorough. The necessary detail is there for an inexperienced teacher. It would be easy to fit into a SofL and there is so much detail included. There is a wide range of activities covering performing, composing and listening... As mentioned, it covers a wide range of activities, and these have been carefully linked to the National Curriculum. I think that learners of all abilities would really enjoy the activities. I like the fact that it encourages students to think carefully about the music and focuses on interpretive qualities of film music alongside technical aspects such as instrument identification.

Very well constructed and provides clear planning that allows the students to develop a good awareness of the purpose, role and importance of soundtracks and film music.

There are a number of guided listening tasks that focus the students’ attention and allow them to build an awareness of how sound can be used to convey mood and emotion. The questioning is differentiated and allows different levels of responses from the students.

The quality of the content of the worksheets is very high and allows learning to be developed and extended. The questioning, prompts and the different approaches to questioning are useful and provide a really good start to further class discussion.

This resource develops and enhances learning, and this scheme of work has very good educational value. The range of listening, performing, composing and arranging activities are varied and allow students to develop greater awareness of music for purpose and builds knowledge. The way in which the questioning develops listening skills is perfect preparation for GCSE appraising and exam technique. The use of comparison between different pieces of music is fantastic preparation for the exam element in GCSE Music.

It was good that this resource focused on the pieces that were prominent and important in the development of musical writing at the time. The links provided are good and provide a chance to extend learning and understanding. There is a clear description of the section of music (with timings) that should be listened to. This would enable a teacher to find the whereabouts of the required section of music quickly and easily.

This resource that matches the KS3 specification very well. There is a lot of good preparation for understanding at GCSE level and this resource would help students in terms of giving time and space to develop listening, critical thinking and analytical skills. This scheme also works on taking melodies and developing and altering them to fit the purpose intended.

An exceptional resource for KS3 teachers. The learning is well thought out and the learning journey is clearly and carefully controlled. The activities are given a realistic time frame for completion and the workbook allows for assessment to be undertaken.

The range of listening example is fantastic and the films used are brilliant and engaging. I have very much enjoyed listening to many of them again.

Very clearly laid out... There are a good range of listening, composing and performing tasks... A wide range of different film Music is used over the whole unit... I liked that each lesson started with a listening task and that each lesson a different genre of film was used... It matches up with the current curriculum, it allows for a wide range of listening to different styles and genres.
