What do teachers say about this resource? (10407)

This is an excellent resource. The author has excellent subject knowledge and has created a comprehensive but concise resource. I am sure that my students will enjoy using this as a revision resource and will benefit hugely from it. What I particularly liked about these posters was the range of tasks – mindmaps, gapfills, note making, categorising. The tasks encourage students to recall information about the novel in a good amount of depth but are broken down into manageable sections. I find this particularly helpful as my students in the past have often found remembering specific details about the plot, characters and historical context of Sac de Billes overwhelming. I also think that the essay planning page and blank templates will be useful. There is very clear scaffolding on teacher introduction page to give guidance on how this resource can be used. This will be really helpful leading up to exams, no extra planning, input or preparation would be needed from the teacher and students can use this independently without support. It encourages students to revisit the main themes, characters and events of the novel and then, most importantly, to test their own knowledge. It gives them detailed information all in one place and easily accessible. The exam planning page provides a useful model, with examples of appropriate and challenging language and structures. This supports students well with the essay question for paper 2.

I consider this a useful and supportive resource which should have considerable appeal for students embarking on in-depth revision of the text. The structure and layout make such study more appealing than would pages of print, and also render it appropriate for a broad ability range. I think the layout and presentation make it accessible. There is a wealth of key information presented and a helpful amount of background political detail to set the tale in its context and to assist students in understanding the significance of the events recounted. I think presentation and layout are particular strengths here, as indeed they need to be with material of this kind. The inclusion of maps, timelines, images and boxed textual information involve the visual aspect of memory in revision, which I think very appropriate. Useful too to provide a template for students to adapt to their own revision needs. I believe these materials would be an excellent tool for preparation for the literary essay writing task which many students find daunting, and this being so, it fits the spec requirements well. The inclusion of some specific literary terminology is also a good scaffold for students to transfer to their own work.

H Murphy, Senior Examiner & Peer Reviewer

The resource matches what AS and A LEVEL students need to know about the book in terms of history background, the author, the themes and the characters. Students could benefit from this resource as soon as they finish reading the book and also as a revision tool.
