A detailed and comprehensive resource which provides a structured pathway through the topic. A thoughtful selection of stimulus texts which should engage and interest the learner, allowing both activation of prior learning and extension and challenge. As a teacher, I found this a satisfying resource as there had obviously been great care and attention put into the resource and the writer has a clear passion for the subject.

A well written and informative aid for A Level. It begins as a highly academic exploration of the genre and it is clear that the author is well read and researched. I enjoyed reading the pack and look forward to using the material in my lessons soon!

Excellent! Very comprehensively written, with very good hyperlinks to other useful resources. It's ambitious in its wide coverage of texts but if I chose not to use all the texts covered in the pack, it still gave me some really thoughtful ideas to adapt for other possible texts. Lesson plans were useful, with homework hints too. Caters for all levels of comprehension. Easily accessible presentation and layout... Exactly matches specification on syllabus and covers a wide range of various types of Gothic literature across time.

A thorough resource to assist delivery of the Gothic element of AQA Lit B... I liked the explanation of the element for teachers and students alike and targets to achieve. Also the clarification of confusing points. The lesson ideas were also detailed... It gives the student an insight into the Gothic period with extracts from Literature which fulfil the criteria. It is a thorough preparation for the module... The extracts were excellent and the worksheets' content very good... It matches [the spec] brilliantly... The work tasks are excellent ... and the ideas are imaginative.

A practical, useful resource that will help teachers introduce the study of Gothic texts. It gives students a wider view of what Gothic Literature entails and allows them to explore other texts. Offers good opportunities for group work, research and presentation, leading to a collaborative ethos in the classroom. It acts as an excellent introduction from which teachers can evolve from in terms of planning lessons on their set texts stemming from this prior learning.

I found the provision of teaching strategies and specific worksheets to be used in lessons very valuable. The lesson resources are excellent as part of teaching as they encourage students to think independently and they also develop understanding. They will certainly aid teachers in lesson planning. This resource effectively matches and interprets the AQA specification for this play insofar that it looks at where gothic novels started and explains that texts preceding this had elements of the gothic. It is a good teaching resource — an excellent introduction to Gothic Literature.

I really liked the liveliness and breadth of suggested activities... Brilliant ideas for activities which have immediate classroom application.

Very helpful. I liked that it was a short scheme & that worksheets were clearly labelled for each lesson. I think by getting students to read the recommended texts before their actual chosen texts is a great way to develop their knowledge of the Gothic.
