Skills and Tactics Cards for Key Stage 3 Physical Education

Competitive sports available: Rugby, Football & Tennis

Dynamic and illustrated KS3 resource packs

Specifically written for the National Curriculum in England, designed to inspire and physically develop students’ fundamental movement skills, techniques, tactics and strategies as they progress to becoming competent and literate sports performers.

Great for:
  • Supporting non-specialists and student teachers
  • Directing TAs working with targeted groups
  • Encouraging leadership and independent learning

Also great for supporting with GCSE and L2 Non-Examined Assessments!

Carefully structured into three distinct sections:

  1. Technique cards
Illustrated step-by-step guides to all the core skills for each sport. Differentiated into ‘Easy’, ‘Intermediate’ and ‘Advanced’ techniques
  2. Practice cards
Differentiated drills and games engage students in analysing and applying skills through direct competition
  3. Tactic and Strategy cards
Multidimensional activities to improve tactical and strategic awareness through critical reflection

Cards allow for student-led practice which is something that Ofsted will be looking out for in PE for sure

P Kilroy, PE teacher & Independent Reviewer.
Cards include:
  • Striking illustrations and diagrams help learners get their head around fundamental skills, drills and competitive sport games
  • Clear aims, student-friendly instructions, equipment lists and key rules encourage independent learners
  • ‘Analytical’ questions encourage students to step back, assess and analyse performance
  • ‘Match day’ questions enable students to apply core skills and tactics to competitive situations, developing their knowledge and understanding

I really like these cards. The layout is excellent and the game related suggestions are first rate

What do teachers say about this resource? (6307)

A useful resource that helps to aid the teaching of practical football sessions for both non-specialist and PE staff. I liked the key term skill specific sheets to identify the teaching points required for all football skills, that can be used to develop teachers knowledge, peer assessment and self-assessment purposes. I feel that it develops and reinforces members of staff’s knowledge in this area if they are not football specialists. I also feel that it benefits students’ knowledge of specific skills, as it is developing their technical knowledge with the use of peer and self-assessment cards, whilst also providing a range of drills to reinforce good technique and preventing tedium within the lessons. Thus, reinforcing knowledge and understanding amongst staff and students alike. I like the presentation and layout of the resource. The resource covers aspects of the ‘Football’ specification requirements, which is reinforced by activities whereby students are encouraged to apply such knowledge to a game like situation. It can be used to develop student’s peer and self-assessment skills, whilst providing a wider range of drills for Y7&8 lessons developing skills and tactics employed in these games.

K Marston, PE teacher & Peer Reviewer

The standout feature in my opinion is the ‘1st half, 2nd half’ etc format. This allows for routines to be in-built into the lesson, progress checks to be made and differentiations to be implemented. It is dynamic and not one dimensional...Cards allow for student-led practice which is something that Ofsted will be looking out for in PE for sure.

What do teachers say about this resource? (6328)

A really useful and time saving tool. Clear, concise and student friendly. Easy to pick up and use and visual for all types of learners to engage with thoroughly!

R Devlin, Curriculum Team Leader & Peer reviewer

A really useful resource to ensure consistency of delivery and key teaching points to develop a range of learning and thinking skills throughout lessons. Would support student teachers, as well as experienced teachers lacking in subject knowledge and maximises independence and student led learning.

What do teachers say about this resource? (6306)

I consider the pack would be an excellent resource for teachers especially if not ‘rugby’ specialists. I found the ‘analysing performance’ and ‘match day’ questions posed to be excellent idea and thought provoking and clearly a link to improving performance. In general really like these cards. The layout is excellent and the game related suggestions are first rate

I Minto, PE Teacher, Level 4 Rugby Coach & Peer Reviewer

Key areas of the game are covered... Good progressions to take a skill development into a conditioned / 'live' game, and also asks the student(s) to analyse their performance.

T Kendall, PE Teacher & Peer Reviewer.
