What do teachers say about this resource? (11869)

Very good; I really liked the range of activities, it spiked my interest to read on right from the start. Whoever wrote this pack clearly knows how to teach and foster learning in their students! The activities are simple but effective in consolidating the learning either at the end of a lesson or at the beginning of the next to check for understanding. There is a variety of activities that are well-designed to suit the ability level of the students who choose this course. They range from individual to paired and group activities which, as a teacher, you can adapt as required. The headings are catchy and should make students curious as to the nature of the activity. There are also extension tasks which can be used to explore topics further or for the more able in the group. Case studies are relevant and help to apply the materials learnt. These activities will also help with answering exam questions; activity 8 is very appropriate as there is generally a question like this on the exam paper. This could be used in a variety of ways; starters, plenaries or even revision activities for Year 11 prior to the exam. All are very interactive and will keep students occupied and interested while learning. As a teacher that is new to teaching this course this would be a fabulous resource to have access to. It would save a lot of time and effort with planning. I will be recommending it to other teachers as I do with other ZigZag packs!

What do teachers say about this resource? (11870)

I thought that the author of this resource has taken into consideration a vast number of topics that need to be addressed by the NEA for the Level 1/2 Vocational Award Hospitality & Catering (Technical Award). The way the resources are structured has catered for individual, pair & group work which can then be used to help embed the knowledge required-especially important with the new specification as no resources are permitted for completion of the NEA. I particularly liked the life stage dice activity... this would mean that pupils would need to be thinking about all life stages & allow for the identification of weaknesses of pupils within this important element of the NEA. The dice could also be incorporated into a board game for revision activities prior to introducing the NEA for pupils so useful not just as a starter or plenary.

Pupils can engage in a fun learning environment & some activities can be adapted into a team setting within the classroom so they compete for marks. It will encourage pupils to want to learn & complete research in their own time to try to be better prepared for the next lesson. Teacher instructions are clear & concise so easy to relay these instructions to the pupils with no misunderstanding of tasks. The resource enables pupils to complete deeper thinking tasks as well as useful memory retrieval tasks which would assist with long-term memory to enable a successful completion of NEA coursework.

Not only is it aimed at the specification topics but it could also be used in KS3 to assist with building knowledge for pupils: for example my year 9 pupils learn about the different dietary needs of specific groups & numerous aspects of this resource could be introduced to those pupils.
