What do teachers say about this resource? (9999)

Another essential tool for all serious teachers and learners: thank you. It includes everything needed to help teachers and learners approach all aspects of the A Level examination of the text. I particularly liked the author’s authoritative voice: here is a resource that one can depend upon to do its work reliably. The resource goes so far as explicitly to correct errors overlooked in the exam board’s recommended textbook. This lends confidence to teachers and learners alike: the resource is clearly exactly in line with the examination specification; furthermore, it knows what it’s talking about. It provides practice examination questions throughout, covering all the various types of question possible, according to past papers in this specification.

Overall, an excellent resource that would work excellently either as a textbook for a class to use, as a revision resource given out before the Easter vacation, or even as an individual purchase for a student. Everything is clear and well-explained. Pedagogically there are some excellent elements in the notes, taking the opportunity to reinforce grammar knowledge in general, rather than just give a crutch for translation. I particularly like the way that more complex/ stylistically rich parts of the text are broken down into sub-paragraphs for analysis: it’s very clear and very easily digestible. The practice questions and mark schemes at the end are fantastic – one of the chief values of these guides!

What do teachers say about this resource? (9124)

It supplements classroom teaching astonishingly well and is a great resource to use for background information and style notes. It is detailed but concise; it systematically goes through the text passage by passage but also provides very good background notes to supplement this. Very useful for visual learners (images, good layout) and has a very helpful distinction between 'grammar/translation' and 'style/context' notes.

R Stretton-Pow, Teacher and Peer Reviewer

All very good; the notes in particular are very helpful. Clear and easy for students to understand. It includes exam questions with excellent mark-schemes. Get them! ZigZag makes life easier!

This resource is a valuable teaching aid for the OCR A level prose sections. It contains thorough analysis of the key rhetorical techniques used in the speech, as well as the relevant historical context for Antony's early life and political career.

A Prescott, Teacher & Peer Reviewer

Thorough. Very detailed historical background notes which are needed for this text.

C Bird, Tutor & Peer Reviewer

Very thorough and useful resource. Grammar explanations at the end are useful.

What do teachers say about this resource? (8978)

There is no doubt that this resource will be at the top of the list for those teachers teaching this option of the Group 1 OCR specification set texts. The notes on the grammar are thorough and aimed precisely at students who should in theory be above GCSE standard but not yet used to dealing with such dense prose which often needs quite a bit of unpacking. The stylistic notes are also very thorough and targeted exactly at the sort of points which examiners will be looking for in candidates' responses. The introduction to the author and the historical background of the period will be useful to students and teachers alike, with reference to further supplementary reading, yet without reading lists which would be rather overwhelming when faced with the time pressure of exam preparation.

What do teachers say about this resource? (10000)

I think this is an excellent resource. It's very thorough and well done. Offers some excellent commentary and grammatical notes to supplement those from the set books and the teacher helps both the weak and the strong.

This is a valuable resource for the second half of the Philippic speech […] perfectly catered for the OCR exam board. The resource contains the necessary context and content notes needed for the exam, with a break down for text analysis. The layout of each section of the speech is clear with each section analysed for grammar/rhetorical devices used which will be essential for the OCR exam paper. Each section contains enough analysis of the rhetorical techniques which is essential for the 15 mark question. Each section also contains relevant context which will be essential for the 20 mark question. There is also an overview of the characters of both Antony and Caesar.
