An excellent resource, very thorough in its approach to this unit and in its content. It is clearly written by a specialist who uses student-friendly language in the resources and provides first hand, detailed information which is useful. A good range of case studies, presentations and fact sheets with the exact knowledge required. A range of useful prompts and scaffolding were evident and guided students to the expectations of the merit and distinction work.

I thought this was a fabulous resource. I liked the fact that it was based around a particular place which gave it a sense of being real for the learners. The case studies were believable and were a range of ages, genders and ethnicities. Having case studies makes a dry subject much more accessible. I really liked the way that the case studies were at the beginning and then they were referred to throughout. It maps onto the specification well and meets all of the learning aims. It is set out in the same way as the exemplar assignments from BTEC which also helps with planning and delivery. I think this is a really good resource.

W Askam, Teacher & Peer Reviewer

The content is of high quality, with plenty of detail. Some of the activities could be good fun, such as role plays and the card resources. With an enthusiastic group, a lot of good discussion and learning could take place in an enjoyable atmosphere.

What do teachers say about this resource? (7784)

Excellent case studies which allow the students to engage with the topic area, along with improved understanding of the key concepts within the curriculum. There are difficult topics within this curriculum, and the exercises break them down into smaller chunks, which allows key information to be absorbed. The exercises are also relevant to the assignment work they will understand, where this allows them to practice the higher marks in the assignment (distinction level) by tackling the worksheet exercises. This unit is an in-depth unit and the worksheets are extensive, allowing the curriculum to be covered extensively.

It provides progressive exercises, allowing the students to engage in thoughtful and provoking discussions in relation to the case studies. The case studies are essential to the understanding of the students, who may have not previously grasped key concepts and by working these exercises the 'penny drops' they are able to link the theory to the application of practice. The worksheets are of very high quality, with detailed answers which allow the students to bridge the theory to practical situations (case studies) which offer allows the students to grasp and understand relating theory to practice.

Buy them as soon as possible! They will save you many, many, many hours of preparation. Furthermore, they will rapidly help your students to understand the topic area extensively and rapidly.

The resource is extremely comprehensive. The case study activities will certainly benefit the learners learning and enhance their understanding, so when it comes to completing the assignment their scope of applying their knowledge will be sound. Teachers notes are clear and easy to follow. Each case study activity has been clearly planned showing a clear link to the specification. The case study activities are varied throughout allowing learners to reflect holistically and includes contributing information to support learning further. Learners will be able to use the resource to complement and enhance learning further from that of what the teacher delivers. I personally cannot suggest any improvements for improving this resource. I would 100% purchase this resource. I have taught Unit 5 for the last 3 years and this resource would have been my lifesaver when coming to differentiate learning activities and to support the learners with their assignment writing. An absolute privilege to review this resource. A considerable amount of time and effort has gone into the making of such an amazing resource. Thank you.

Good range of activities, explaining professionals roles and lay persons personal circumstances. Incorporated well pieces of legislation and health/social care governing bodies. I particularly liked the range of role plays with scenarios and specifics of each player to include. This resource could be used across inter related units e.g psychology to give a brief overview for intro to some theories.

E Ansell, Teacher & Peer Reviewer

Wow! The resource is extremely comprehensive and there has been a huge amount of work gone into it to make it a useful and valid resource. Overall, an extremely useful, time and stress saving resource. Many less experienced teachers in this subject will find this resource a God send in my opinion. I think this resource has done a fantastic job of this whilst also providing structure for discussion and writing. Think this resource is well worth buying. I think it would save teachers a lot of time interpreting the specification and understanding how to get students to independently apply the criteria to different case studies. Particularly for less experienced teachers who may struggle with this.

What do teachers say about this resource? (9964)

Don't hesitate! Buy them now! These resources will improve your student's knowledge of the topic area rapidly and extensively. A fantastic resource with many exercises designed to assess the level of knowledge the student has. Students were able to check their understanding against the answers which they found extremely useful. The tasks were simple and enabled the students to think deeply about topic areas, where the questions were progressive. The resources gave the students a good understanding of the legislation which is used to support those individuals with complex needs to live in a functioning society. Traditionally, students find the legislative section difficult, however, the resources enabled the students to learn effectively about the appropriate legislation required to support those individuals, especially when they face discrimination. The exercises were progressive and thought-provoking with the simple questions that were asked. The resources were extensive and reflected the specifications of the qualification. The students were able to go away and work on the worksheets and check their responses against the answers at a later date. This course of action improved the student's ability to tackle the higher grades in the coursework element (distinction level).

Students were able to grasp key concepts and legislation with ease, giving them the confidence to tackle the assignment briefs with improved confidence. The exercises are extensive across the broad spectrum of the qualification specifications, ensuring students tackle all the learning outcomes in preparation for their assignment coursework. The case studies are important, as the case studies reflect the coursework closely, increasing the confidence of the students to tackle the case students in their assignment coursework.

Buy them! The exercises and the case studies will save you a lot of preparation work. As teachers, we are already overworked. These case studies and exercises will save you thousands of hours of preparation!

I really like the resource... I like the case studies as they cover a wide range of additional needs, which gets students thinking. I really like the variation of activities... there is quite a lot of stretch and challenge throughout [and] lots of opportunities for discussion in lessons. This resource is good for enhancing learning as it covers everything in the specification in detail which is great. I also feel that the stretch activities/extensions enable all learners to engage with this resource and push themselves.

What do teachers say about this resource? (7103)

The resource is generally very good. The range of topics covered is excellent and also allows for the pupils to practice their skills in a variety of ways. I liked how there was a wide variety of topics covered and how they allowed the pupils to apply their skills to be used in an exam and improve the skills needed. The resource will strongly enhance learning because it identifies a number of different topics and question types, and also uses a good variety of case studies and examples to challenge the pupils to think about things in a wider sense, and apply the theories where relevant. The presentation is good for higher learners as they will respond better to the range of written descriptions and detail needed. The range of questions and topics do fully support the specification and the language is very similar to the exam papers, so it will allow and support the pupils in being used to the exam topics and structure.

A good resource for busy teachers preparing to teach a brand new specification. A wide variety of stimulating activities including games, ideas for individual research, presentations, pair and group work to challenge level three students and prepare them for the exam... It is very helpful to have task sheets that can be directly photocopied for students and answers to all tasks are provided so that information delivered is factually correct and does not have to be researched by the teacher. This saves an enormous amount of time... a really useful resource for me to use when planning and preparing the delivery of a new specification. Thanks to the author.

H Pringle, Teacher & Peer Reviewer

The resource allows for the teacher to facilitate understanding and application of key concepts taught within face to face sessions. The application of knowledge to contexts was excellent.

E Ansell, Teacher and Peer Reviewer

Very good. Case study approach, similar to the exam paper.

Helpful if you’re new to BTEC! The card games are good and saves time for the teacher in prep!

The resource is really well laid out and organised. It makes a good use of case studies that students will need to be able to achieve a strong grade in the exam.

What do teachers say about this resource? (10084)

A well planned and good resource... clearly delineated into the various sections of the syllabus... [giving] the students opportunities to gain a greater understanding of knowledge and also practice in the application with a good range of very real scenarios. There is a good variety of tasks for students, all of which are focused on students gaining a greater understanding and ability to apply knowledge of psychological approaches. I feel that the resource is going to enhance learning... the case studies provide sufficient detail that students will be able to source the responses needed but also allows for guided assumptions to be made.

M Aldred, H&SC Teacher & Peer Reviewer

The resources were excellent for our students, where traditionally psychology is a difficult subject to understand and students are afraid of the topic area. However, the excellent case studies help to lessen the anxiety students feel as they begin to understand how psychology is applied to the case studies provided. This allows the students to grasp key concepts in a practical setting and as a result of the worksheets they are enjoying the topic area much more, as well as gaining a much better understanding of how psychological approaches work. The resources are simple and allow students to develop their understanding of the different topic areas of psychological approaches. The questions are structured and designed to test their understanding adequately of the approaches which can be used to help those with psychological issues. The case studies with different clients who have different psychological issues are very important because the students can see how different approaches work with different clients, enhancing the understanding of the different psychological approaches. This will benefit their assignment development.

It helps the students to understand the different psychological approaches with confidence and helps them with the structure of their assignments, providing them with the 'penny drops' moments, where students are able to understand of psychology can be applied in a practical way. Furthermore, the worksheets give practical answers on how to deal with scenarios which they may experience as they become older. The case studies are very good and allow the students to analyse the benefits and weaknesses of each psychological approaches.

Buy them! The case studies are crucial to the student's development in understanding the different psychological approaches. This requires analysis and analysing regularly allows the students to practice the distinction-level skills which are required for higher marks in their assignments. I wish I had bought them years ago! This has saved me years of work and preparation for the future!

What do teachers say about this resource? (7617)

Overall, this is a good resource that has some nice case studies and resources that could be used to support less experienced teachers. It could save a lot of planning time for many teachers and provide context for learners through the case studies that provide a lot of information without being tedious... I really liked the case studies and the Thornton Town theme that runs through the resource. I think learners would find them stimulating and they would help them to understand the range of services needed within a community.

W Davies, Lecturer & Peer Reviewer

I liked the case studies... these in themselves are useful. I also liked the amount of opportunities for group work throughout the resource.
