GCSE OCR Classical Greek Set Texts Guide

Prose Literature 2025–2026

Translations and textual analysis of Prose set texts for the GCSE exams in 2025-26. Each text is broken down into manageable chunks, translated into English and accompanied by meaningful notes on style, grammar and literary effects.

For each section of the text:

  • Aided translation activity – suggested word order, additional vocabulary and comprehension questions all support students in making sense of the Greek
  • Widely spaced Greek text next to clear translation – perfect balance between literal, easy-to-follow translations and an eloquent rendering of the text
  • Detailed student-friendly notes deepen their appreciation of the text

Plus!
  • Overview and biographical notes put the work in context
  • Key technical vocab highlighted – glossaries included
  • Original exam-style questions with mark schemes – fully prepare your students for the exams!

Verse Literature 2025–2026 guides are also available.

What do teachers say about this resource? (12216)

It’s very good – it will prepare them well for the GCSE. It’s clearly well researched and clearly laid out. The introduction to Herodotus is clear and informative – the right level of detail for GCSE Greek. I like the style notes and the fact that key words/terms are underlined for easy reference. They are also at the right level for GCSE – sone technical terms, but not too many. The activity to draw a map of Babylon was a fun idea and I think it would be a good way to consolidate learning. In fact, all the activities are imaginative and interesting. The translation is accurate and clear. I like some of the lighter hearted style notes – e.g. the Babylonian wife market being like Monopoly.
