What do teachers say about this resource? (11058, 11059, 11060, 11061)

This is a good time-saver for teachers, particularly, but not exclusively, for those who do not follow a specific course book. With minimal preparation from the teacher, every pupil can be kept busy doing useful tasks, producing material which they can recall and use in an exam.

The ideas for differentiation were good and I like the “Randomise” feature, giving it a board game feel.
This resource brings together the ideas and vocabulary at the end of a topic and the large number of flashcards ensure that there is plenty of practice available yet seeming different to pupils to maintain motivation.

This is good preparation for pupils linking the topics to the Photo Card element of the speaking exam. Very often, pupils can’t think of what to say but this gives them guided practice so that by the end of the course, they would have some inspiration no matter which card they got in the exam. It also encourages spontaneity as the teacher can set the preparation time limit to what they want.

It is also good that some question words were included as it is a requirement of the exam that pupils are able to ask as well as answer questions.
The repetition of some vocabulary items means that pupils get the chance to recall words they have met and perhaps recycle them but in different structures / sentences. This technique of “use what you know and adapt it” is really useful!
It is also good to broaden vocabulary by including synonyms (ennuyeux / barbant; amusant / rigolo) and qualifiers to encourage their use.

The vocab is certainly useful for this AQA topic and the cards offer plenty of opportunities to practise it in the active skills of speaking and writing in ways which are useful for the exams.

Flashcards are a fantastic way to practise vocabulary in lessons and prepare the Writing and Speaking examination in depth. The fact each topic has its own set of flashcard is great, because it can be used one-by-one or mixed during revision lessons.

I love that every flashcard comes with a different verb- this can be used as a great starter, where students can conjugate them (Foundation: Je/Il/Nous; Higher: all the subject pronouns).

The answers given at the end of the document are a good feedback to share with students.

This resource is very useful for Productive tasks- it will help students preparing possible answers for each topic for the Writing and Speaking examination. It is a nice alternative to the Sentence builders, especially at Higher level, where students can work with less support.

This resource matches the specification well with the vocabulary used; it also helps teaching the examination in a structured way. It gives a chance to students to produce writing and speaking work within the framework of the examination and furthermore helping the students producing their own paragraph/conversation for each topic.

J Heald-Smith, Teacher of French & Peer Reviewer

I like the fact that the words from the specification are being given alongside a verb and other words that may or may not be automatically associated with said words from the spec. It would challenge students to be more creative and make their work more unique if successful. I can see it being used as a consolidation for weaker students but also to stretch students who would need to make these connections.

The words are taken from the specification itself so of course it is well suited. The option of changing the tense/mood and the subject pronouns make it relevant to what a student must achieve to secure a grade 5 and above.

I Rodriguez, Head of Languages & Peer Reviewer

It is a good idea and it is really helpful to have something that student can use to help them improve their productive language skills.

It provides a mechanism by which the students can get into routines of building sentences with high frequency language. It gives them confidence and helps them build sentences rather than just learning vocab. It is a resource that can be differentiated.

E Kilburn, Deputy Head Teacher and Teacher of French, Latin, Italian, English & Peer Reviewer

On the whole I think that this could be a very useful resource which could challenge more able pupils and goes beyond the specification in terms of creative thinking and encouraging spontaneity and fluency in French. It is very detailed and can be used in many different ways and for all the skills; not only speaking as it’s primary intention, but also reading, listening, writing and grammar.

What do teachers say about this resource? (11137, 11138, 11139, 11140)

I liked the simple line drawings and consider this an accessible, versatile resource that can be used by pupils of all ages and abilities, either in self-study, class use or small group activities.

I see the major educational value of this resource in its capacity to enhance pupils' speaking skills, as there is a wide variety of topic areas and some very useful, contemporary German language.

I think presentation and layout are both very clear and attractive.

I feel the resource matches and interprets the GCSE specification extremely well, both at Foundation and Higher Level.

I would certainly consider purchasing this resource for my Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10 classes of German.

C Westwood, Head of MFL & Peer Reviewer

I did like the idea of using flashcards for pair or group work in class. I liked the illustrations on the cards. This kind of teaching resource is very appealing to students.

I liked the variety of personality descriptions, the integration of modern family concepts such as single-sex families and the presentation of different family statuses and relationships.

It is a differentiated resource and inspires students to gradually increase the use of the target language.

M Schumacher-Woodburn, Teacher & Peer Reviewer

What do teachers say about this resource? (11336, 11337, 11338, 11339)

I like the fact that the resource aims at improving students writing and speaking and that it is quite versatile as it can be used in many different ways, for example as mere flashcards to remember and learn new vocabulary or as a prompt to create new sentences within each of the GCSE Spanish topics.
