What do teachers say about this resource? (10177)

This is a comprehensive and useful guide to the GCSE verse set texts discussed, broken helpfully into chunks, and sensibly keyed to both learners and teachers in its accessibility and thoroughness. The numbered passages effectively scaffold the difficult skill of verse translation for GCSE-aged learners, along with the further assistance of the author's own translation. The thoroughness of the style and content discussion is invaluable both as a teaching resource and as a revision tool for learners to consolidate their knowledge. The author is clearly aware both of the assessment objectives and the way that they are assessed on this paper; the discussion of each poem goes into detail probably beyond that required of GCSE in terms of style and content analysis, and the exam questions at the end of the specification are written in the exact format that OCR uses.

What do teachers say about this resource? (10662)

I think that this is an extremely well put together resource, aimed at the right level for GCSE students, with the right degree of information and relevance. There are numerous parts of the resource which I thought are particularly relevant and helpful. The introduction is excellent, with a good level of explanatory information, without going into too much detail for the level required, especially on the historical background - just enough to be useful. The style and content notes I think are superb; they explain very carefully the points made in words suitable for the level of the resource. The addition of a full vocabulary is also a good point. The examination questions are all relevant, and giving answers helps students understand the type of answers that are required. The resource enables the student to undertake the study of Virgil, quite a daunting prospect, so that they can understand and appreciate it. The odd bits of humour are a nice touch. I find that the resource is a very good match to the specification and interprets it very well. I like the way the parts of the text between the required text are explained, so that Book 6 is seen as a whole, rather than as disjointed excerpts.
