Computer Science Technical Checkers and Writers

Pay from £18,471 – £21,000 per annum pro rata, dependent on qualifications and experience

Working as part of a friendly team of fellow students and graduates from various subject areas, you will be responsible for checking and writing teaching materials for the new Computer Science A Levels.

This is an opportunity for university students and graduates to gain relevant experience in the field of Computer Science, as well as in the publishing and education sectors (valuable for those considering a career in teaching).

Typical work activities

  • Checking draft resources against specification criteria and identifying areas for improvement
  • Writing original content for new teaching resources
  • Typical content includes: student notes; activities with answers; keywords and definitions; programming tasks and solutions; posters and mind maps

What we are looking for

Skills/qualifications:
  • Essential:
    • Computer Science graduate or undergraduate (with at least a 2:1 achieved/expected)
    • Grade A in A Level Computing (or equivalent qualifications)
  • Desirable:
    • PGCE and/or teaching experience
    • Experience of writing in a professional context, e.g. freelance educational writing

Personal qualities:
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently in accordance with project briefs and set timescales
  • Ability to organise your workload and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both in your work and when liaising with the subject editor
  • Attention to detail – to identify potential errors or omissions
  • Enthusiastic and a motivated team player

Positions available:

Computer Science Graduate
  • 12 month contract (starting ASAP) with the possibility of further work
  • 40 hours per week, based in our office in Westbury-on-Trym
  • Pay from £8.45 – £11.09 per hour (£17,645 – £20,661 pro rata) dependent on qualifications and experience
  • 6 month probation period
Computer Science Technical Checker / Writer
  • 3 month contract (starting ASAP) with the possibility of further work
  • Potentially flexible working hours, based in our office in Westbury-on-Trym
  • Pay from £8.45 – £11.09 per hour (£17,645 – £20,661 pro rata) dependent on qualifications and experience
