Far beyond the simple notions of split personality, Stevenson’s exploration of class systems, religion, science, societal expectations and human nature in Victorian England makes this gripping novella relevant to each and every one of us, and thus a fascinating text to teach. This comprehensive guide offers targeted, detailed notes to help students get to know the text, ensuring that they feel confident analysing key themes, characters and contexts and encouraging them to explore the text in new ways prior to the exam.

A very useful resource [that] covers all aspects of the text, breaks them down clearly using subheadings for easy access and is also written in an easy, fluent style which makes it easy to engage with. There is plenty of information and analysis which will be helpful to both students and teachers, and this info is combined with questions to make students think. I like the way that the chapter-by-chapter analysis draws out themes, e.g. duality in characters and their relationships. The tasks are varied imaginative... and they make the students think more deeply about elements of the text... I like the way that the answers to the essay questions are presented using the AO points. There are also plenty of short, useful quotes (for learning) in the answer section.

I thought the structure, layout, and analysis of the text were excellent.

I particularly liked the exam units given for different exam boards and how this resource covers them with percentage weightings. I think including the assessment objectives and criteria were advantageous and should be included in all works of this kind.

The plot summary was excellently written with good subheadings providing focus points for the reader. I also liked the explanation boxes that clarified the language used.

The 'Active learning tasks' were also excellent.

I thought the layout and structure of the whole resource were well done, easy to understand, and chronological as the text is. The exam tips did add something extra for the reader to think about and were also worthwhile.

Practice exam questions were necessary and good examples were used. The chart given for Stevenson's descriptions of settings and appearance was helpful, this should be set on one page not split over two and some pictures would enhance this here.

An excellent resource.
