This is a high-quality resource which presents a comprehensive analysis of Stevenson’s The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Unlike some traditional revision guides, the resource has an engaging approach, with ‘Active Learning’ boxes and discussion prompts enabling students to build personal responses to the text. There is a scholarly feel to this resource, with detailed analysis of all chapters and interesting links made to context and key ideas.
A high quality resource which is of significant education value. The information within the resource is scholarly and is tailored closely to the assessment objectives, without seeming rigid in the process.
The resource is extremely user-friendly and actively engages students in the process of their learning.
A very thorough and comprehensive guide... It's not just merely scratching the surface, but is in depth and covers every element of the text. I'd have no reservations in recommending this to my students... This is an excellent resource! It provides a detailed and gritty response to the text and encourages students to think and explore for themselves. Well done to the writer!
A very useful resource [that] covers all aspects of the text, breaks them down clearly using subheadings for easy access and is also written in an easy, fluent style which makes it easy to engage with. There is plenty of information and analysis which will be helpful to both students and teachers, and this info is combined with questions to make students think. I like the way that the chapter-by-chapter analysis draws out themes, e.g. duality in characters and their relationships. The tasks are varied imaginative... and they make the students think more deeply about elements of the text... I like the way that the answers to the essay questions are presented using the AO points. There are also plenty of short, useful quotes (for learning) in the answer section.
I thought the structure, layout, and analysis of the text were excellent.
I particularly liked the exam units given for different exam boards and how this resource covers them with percentage weightings. I think including the assessment objectives and criteria were advantageous and should be included in all works of this kind.
The plot summary was excellently written with good subheadings providing focus points for the reader. I also liked the explanation boxes that clarified the language used.
The 'Active learning tasks' were also excellent.
I thought the layout and structure of the whole resource were well done, easy to understand, and chronological as the text is. The exam tips did add something extra for the reader to think about and were also worthwhile.
Practice exam questions were necessary and good examples were used. The chart given for Stevenson's descriptions of settings and appearance was helpful, this should be set on one page not split over two and some pictures would enhance this here.
An excellent resource.
