A very thorough and well-written resource which will engage weaker and disengaged learners in the text and its context whilst considering its relevance to today. The character-narrated summaries are innovative and activities are designed to ensure maximum student participation... I particularly liked the quick guide to AOs and the plot summaries. I also like the slides which break up the texts and tasks into easily digestible ‘chunks’ and aid memory and revision. The glossary of terms is comprehensive and useful too... The resource helps weaker and/or disengaged students understand and meet requirements to pass GCSE English. It provides for a broad range of learning skills and styles whilst exploring the relevance of the text within the time it was written and its relevance both then and now. A comprehensive range of needs are met including how to write PEE paragraphs, reference quotations and use literary terms. The attention placed on listening and speaking skills is most welcome, considering the target audience... The presentation and layout are extremely attractive and student-friendly... It matches and interprets the specifications very well, illustrating which learning objectives are being met for each task. It prepares students fully for the relevant sections of the GCSE English Literature exam for the various specifications... This resource prepares not only prepares learners for the relevant part of the GCSE exam but provides them with useful literary skills for life.
Excellent resource... I liked the clear summary of each chapter and activities which were great... There are activities which don't have an exam focus as well which is nice to get the students engaged... It is clearly laid out and easy to access... It matches [the specification] well.
A very comprehensive and detailed resource that covers all the key areas in a thorough way. There is imaginative use of activities and overall it is well thought through... The teachers’ notes section was very helpful indeed as there is a lot of detail giving guidance on how to proceed with all the different activities, and I found this very helpful as a teacher... The anticipatory plot summary was particularly good for less-able students... As well as the activities for each chapter, the range of activities that explore the different characters is also really good... Some of the activities relating to structure are immensely useful... Overall, this is an excellent resource.
Engaging layout which is user-friendly for the weaker learner and tired teacher! I really like the chapter summaries / plot overviews. I think they have been done in a very student-friendly way which will help them to unpick the complexities of the novel and the Victorian language... I really like the topics for the context presentations, as this is something that would actually be interesting for the students to do and it encourages independence in the texts... I really like the way that it takes students on a step-by-step walk through how to construct an essay. Little details like how to set out quotations can be a huge issue with the lowest ability, and this kind of info would give them the best possible chance of succeeding... I also like the chapter worksheets with the glossary, as this encourages resourcefulness in the students.
