What do teachers say about this resource? (8885)

An excellent resource with its comprehensive notes, not only on the style of the Latin, but also on the grammar. Although students don’t need to know how the set texts work grammatically, this sort of linguistic help enables students to arrive at a decent translation themselves, which in turn boosts confidence in their abilities. It also avoids the problem of simply rote-learning the translation to regurgitate in the exam, which can often escape them when the pressure is on... I particularly liked the summative vocabulary list at the back of the resource, which is a useful addition when a word has been glossed earlier in the prescription, but then promptly forgotten! Likewise, it is very useful to have two full-length mock exams ready to use (with mark schemes!), and nor does the teacher need to wait until completion of the full prescription to set the first exam, which (with the exception of question 7) needs knowledge of the text only up to line 543... There is no doubt that this resource will be at the top of list for those teachers teaching Verse B of the OCR specification. The stylistic analysis is clear and concise, and there are numerous comprehension questions and activities dotted throughout for students to put into practice the skills that they are developing... The construction of the examination-style questions is also particularly impressive and matches the specimen papers provided by OCR. A student who has used this resource and tackled the mock papers will be well prepared to face the examination.

A comprehensive and very useful aid for students new to poetry... The scansion section in particular made for much easier reading and was very helpful for a complete novice... Lots of helpful commentary on metre, saving the novice lots of work scanning... Numbered Latin plus following vocab list is very useful.

What do teachers say about this resource? (8883)

A comprehensive and thorough examination of the poems... It will be particularly useful for teachers or pupils working independently, containing all the information they could potentially need to succeed in the examination and a large variety of exam-style practice questions... The comprehensive style analysis in particular is extremely useful, pointing out areas of literary interest with clarity and thoughtfulness... The comprehensive literary analysis on offer is perfect both for teachers wishing to save time and for pupils revising or studying more independently who may need help with the more technical examination of unfamiliar Latin poetry. It offers learners the chance to translate independently and then consolidate this further with assistance in analysis... The resource is well aware of the kinds of questions one is asked at Latin GCSE and covers the prescribed material for this unit with aplomb. The large range of practice questions (and associated mark scheme) offered at the end of the paper are valuable in terms of offering extra practice material.
