What do teachers say about this resource? (9800)

A very valuable resource! I would recommend this resource to anyone who is about to embark on the course. It provides easy to understand scaffolded assessment practice activities that help prepare students and tailor their learning experience. It does exactly what it sets out to do and puts the specification at the learner’s fingertips... The resource has a logical flow but can also be dipped in and out of when needed by the teacher/assessor to support where necessary. It is clearly laid out and easy to follow, and the sections are clearly defined with links to much sought after case studies and presentations which support learner. It extensively details and succinctly explains all the fundamental knowledge requirements of component 3 and with the few resources available for this component this one of the most valuable and user friendly I have come across. Written in very accessible style, with lots of different scaffolded questions from individual work or group work allowing for the mix of abilities within a classroom. This resource covers the underpinning knowledge and understanding needed at to ensure that learners are fully prepared for this course, these tasks can be used as homework and not just utilised as class tasks. This would be invaluable to gauge student learning.

C Hutchinson, Teacher & Peer Reviewer

An excellent resource. Resource covers all of the main topic areas for component 3. Provides an overview of the key content and this information is accurate and very well-presented. Images and graphics are very good. It is functional, as each case study is specific, so not too much information on each page and it Is easily linked well to the component 3 specification or a RAG tracking sheet that the teacher may have made for the learners. The resource can be used as part of a lesson for teaching the topic or as a revision guide. The case studies reflect the exact amount of content that needs to be learned. The layout and presentation of the case studies are attractive and would grab the interest of a ‘typical’ level 3 learner. The resource clearly follows the layout of the component 3 specification. Case studies outline clearly what needs to be achieved and will give all students a basic understanding to help underpin teaching and help with independent revision.

A useful resource which will help students and teachers with component 3. It puts student learning into a realistic setting, so that they can apply their knowledge. It uses a range of people in the case studies and it means teachers do not need to spend their time creating the resource; the hard work has been done for them. I find the Thornton Green scenario a useful learning tool. It is really useful that not only answers are provided, but also points that might be included in the discussion activities. This is helpful to a non-specialist teaching the course and will be useful for some students who find the discussion part of the work harder. Students apply their learning as if in the real world when they are applying it to the case studies. This helps them to prepare for the exam when they will be asked to do that. It will help students to become more confident with applying their knowledge. Fits the specification perfectly and in fact, it seems to be in the order in which I teach it which is helpful. The definitions activity at the start is useful as they are the specific words that students need to be familiar with in this course so after the activity, they will have them to refer back to.

The resource is excellent and engaging for all pupils who appreciate the diversity of activities, the way they represent the exam and benefits from the revision. I really liked the use of a range of case studies to help the pupils understand the range of topics they may need to be able to understand and the way they blend together. The follow up tasks are really good and allow the pupils to be able to use the case studies for a range of tasks. The range of tasks allows the pupils to be able to use all the skills needed for the component and the resource reinforces this. The lay out is really good and allows the pupils to be engaged, they liked how the resource flowed and there was a range of tasks. Excellent resource.

P Newman, Teacher of Health and Social Care & Peer Reviewer

I think this resource is good because it has a lot of varied activities that are relevant to the specification... I really like that fact that there are several detailed case studies which can be referred to throughout the duration of teaching Component 3. This resource will help the students get to grips with reading the case study and applying their knowledge, which is a fundamental part of this unit.

What do teachers say about this resource? (8060)

I would recommend this resource... it serves as an excellent reference for practicing picking apart a case study and linking the subject within the case study to Learning Aim A and B. By using the resource you are able to assess the extent students recall certain aspects of the specification and allows teachers to monitor students learning through the simple and clear tasks. The author has created short, topic-based activities, which can be completed in approximately 20-30 minutes... This will certainly aid with helping with lesson planning and course coverage, and with the answer being provided will relieve the planning pressure of the teacher and allows for immediate discussion of the answers with the students. The information provided is in such detail it allows to the individuals to access the specification and break it down into small segments allowing engagement within the assignment The resource supports instant feedback and enables the students to gauge attainment of knowledge at regular intervals which students will benefit from enormously. Written in very accessible style, with lots of different tasks from discussions to role play activities allowing for the mix of abilities within a classroom.

C Hutchinson, Teacher of Health and Social Care & Peer Reviewer

Really enjoy the range of activities on offer. The tasks are very accessible and all link back to the same several case studies, so students become familiar with these people and begin to understand the factors that affect their health, growth and development following PIES. I liked that there are different styles of tasks and ways of working. e.g. individual, paired and group work. The case studies are easy to read and comprehend, whilst still demanding the level of knowledge required for the course. Case studies that are both relevant and accessible are difficult to find... The author has created a theme that is well embedded in H & SC whilst making it easy for students who are just starting out in their H & SC studies. This resource allows even a novice teacher to set activities and rest assured that it matches both the content and level of difficulty that the specification asks for. The case studies give students the chance to assess factors affecting health and development across all life stages using the key terminology given in the specification.

[Would you purchase this resource?} Yes, absolutely, would save me a lot of time finding appropriate case studies.

D Ojjeh, Head of Health and Social care & Peer Reviewer

The case studies are a great way of getting students to apply their knowledge. I like the case studies used and the amount of diversity used throughout... this will make the resource more engaging to students. The case studies are also specific to health and social care settings which gives students the experience of what it would be like to work in a health and social care setting.

Case studies are invaluable, but I don't have time to write my own, these take that stress away.

This resource is comprehensive. It will be very useful with my Year 10 classes. It provides a range of activities that are accessible to lower ability students whilst allowing for stretch and challenge. It is great that suggested answers to the activities are included, especially for a non-specialist. I like the fact that, although the place featured is fictional, these are real case studies based on real individuals. Too often case studies are a bit far-fetched and therefore unrealistic whereas these read as real because they are. There is a range of individuals covered. I think it enhances learning by getting the students to apply what they are learning to actual case studies. It helps them to understand what they are studying by applying it to people. This helps them to understand the theory that underpins the practice in health and social care settings. Specific websites are provided so students do not waste time searching the internet, for instance when finding out about strokes. This resource matches the specification perfectly... It takes students neatly through the learning, for instance an early activity is on gross and fine motor skills and this is exactly at the specification lays it out. This resource also lays some of the foundations for Component 2 as it introduces health and social care services and service users. This will be very helpful when we come to study that component as students will already be familiar with some of the content. Also, in Component 2 the students need to write about health and social care services that are appropriate for case studies so they will have already begun to think along those lines. I had not considered using case studies for Component One but this resource has shown me how well they lend themselves to the learning. Students apply their understanding to the case studies which sets their learning in the real world.

What do teachers say about this resource? (9005)

This resource covers all the specification requirements and reflects the knowledge required by students. A good mix of teaching aids (especially for the non-specialist). Student centred activities such as role plays, discussions and practical exercised will expand on learning. This will certainly aid with helping with the development of students’ knowledge and help prepare them for Component 2. The tasks allow for more independent learning from the higher learners within the group, and with the links to the criteria, the activities follow a logical flow through Component 2. The answers being provided will relieve the planning pressure of the teacher and allows for immediate discussion of the answers with the students. The information provided is in such detail it allows to the individuals to access and break it down into small segments allowing engagement within the assignment. The resource supports formative assessment and enables the students to gauge attainment of knowledge at regular intervals which students will benefit from enormously.

C Hutchinson, H&SC Teacher & Peer Reviewer

A really useful resource for the pupils, in a unit that they were struggling to be able to break down and understand. The resource was beneficial for them all to be able to access the key content and make significant improvements to their work. Pupils liked the simple lay out and easy to follow language of the tasks. It addresses all of the key information of the unit and uses the terms appropriate in the specification making it easier for the pupils to engage with the assignment brief. It supports the pupils learning and work in a very positive way.

P Newman, Teacher of Health and Social Care & Peer Reviewer

A great resource for offering different approaches to delivery which will appeal to the more kinaesthetic learner. I particularly liked the range of games which were ready to print and go. The activities clearly state the case studies and presentations required for each task and appropriate forms for responses are evident. I feel the activities will engage students which should have a positive effect on learning
