What do teachers say about this resource? (7777)

Activities were engaging and relevant... I liked the flexibility of the resource as some of the activities might be done in class, whereas others could be given independently to do as homework or used to create some revision lessons. I also liked the variety as the type of exercise the students do is different for each page and stage of the book... Connects well to the specs on the new exam... There are exam-style questions based on extracts and also some focus on key skills for analysis and how to build on those skills... There is also work on structure [and there are] references to context and where to research... All of these connect to what students are being tested on so each resource is relevant.

The resource would be enormously valuable to all abilities of students... It is clearly linked to the exam specification, and so the students are made consistently aware of the purpose of the activities. There is also a good mix of individual and discussion tasks, thus making it accessible for different styles of learner... I am impressed with the range of skills covered within the resource. It addresses everything from basic comprehension and inference to detailed connotations of the language and opportunities to discuss alternative interpretations... I would feel comfortable teaching this scheme of work to students on any specification, comfortable in the knowledge that they will be practising relevant skills... The layout is logical and appealing. Where extended writing is required, it breaks this down into manageable steps for the students.

A very useful resource which would provide a foundation for teaching the text or support an existing scheme of work. I particularly like the clarity of the focus on the AOs throughout the resource and the provision of (suggested) answers to the task... Matches the demands of the Literature specification well, with a clear awareness of the examiners' requirements.

A detailed and comprehensive resource. The fact that activities are linked to the AOs is really useful to ensure that all aspects of the course are met. I like the division into pre-reading, text analysis and then whole text activities to help build a clear understanding of the text... The build-up to whole-text responses clearly leads pupils to developing exam responses – will help pupils to gain confidence to develop answers in depth... The resources are easily accessible and engaging. The wide variety of materials means that there is work for all abilities of pupils... Some will encourage higher order thinking skills and challenge, while others require developing the skills necessary when answering exam questions. The resources are adaptable so that they can meet the needs of all pupils regardless of their ability [and] engage all pupils, even those who are more reluctant or difficult to engage... The reminder of technical terms is useful as the need to use such terms in writing responses is constantly highlighted by AQA. The suggested answers to the questions are also really helpful.

A useful resource which provides activities for pre-reading and during the study of the novel. It also provides a range of activities on the whole text and some work on vocabulary. Suggested answers are provided at the end, which is helpful. All in all, I think that this would be useful for teachers tackling this text. The most useful element of this resource is the range of the activities for each chapter... There was also a good range of activities on the whole text; the exercise linking quotations and themes was particularly helpful and was helpfully provided in differentiated formats... There were also activities on messages and specific themes, and I felt that the activity on duality was one that I would use... This resource will definitely enhance learning; it contains a variety of different types of activities of a suitably demanding level with some thought-provoking ideas.
