I think this resource is well approached and it can be very useful to reinforce students learning skills. I think it follows a pace of work that will suit to most of the students. I particularly like the focus on important words, the tips and strategies. Besides, I think this resource offers the student the opportunity to practice what has been learned. From my point of view, the value of this resource is the focus on reading and comprehension skills. In that sense, the resource is willing to be a sample on good practices to understand foreign language texts. It can be seen both in the form and contents of the chapters. Thus, the resource starts focusing on the use and understanding of cognates and common words and it concludes on strategies to learn new words. At the same time, this is the pattern encouraged to follow when it comes to understand a text. I really appreciate the format changes on the tips and theoretical aspects. I think that the order of the five chapters is appropriate. Besides, each section starts with the presentation of the key aspects that will be focus, and through the resource there are links connecting to previous contents, tips and strategies.

Very clear, practical and with great scaffolding (...) The wide variety of topics covered and key points such as cognates and false friends have been proven over the years to be key in consolidating a pass or even accessing the upper grades.

This is a very useful resource which would be great in our MFL department trying to improve the outcomes of the notorious borderline classes for whom reading in an MFL can be such a challenge.

What do teachers say about this resource? (7863)

I liked it as I think it is logical and on the whole easy for students to build up techniques to answer the questions successfully. Weaker students often find listening so difficult and just give up and I think that this resource goes some way to combatting this.

G Smith, HoD and Peer Reviewer

This resource presents a variety of stimuli for the students to practice for the AQA GCSE Listening paper, stressing out those words and sounds that could be difficult for the students. Overall the resource is appropriate and stimulating.
