What do teachers say about this resource? (6216)

I quite like this resource. It can be issued to those students who you feel require that extra support in quantitative economics. It guides the reader appropriately through each topic. It would enhance student understanding of calculations in economics

What you particularly like/dislike about this resource?
This is an excellent resource to issue to students to "self-study". Many economists students have the necessary GCSE Maths grade but this resource provides the support needed to reinforce the "less confident" students knowledge.

The activities are linked well to economics generally. The material is labelled "OCR" but it is sufficiently flexible to be used upon any specification. It will help those mathematically less competent students develop their understanding. It would be useful as a general aid for all students to bring in their maths knowledge into economics.

The maths skills required by OCR appears the same as other boards. It will develop student capabilities of carrying out calculations as well as interpreting graphs and diagrammatic analysis.
An impressive resource to help develop the quantitative methods needed by an A-level economist.

This is a good supporting material for all students taking A Level OCR Economics. It is clearly broken down into sections that meet the different demands within the specification, whilst within each part there is a good mix of text, how to do the calculation/interpret data and questions to test understanding.

The provision of worked examples goes beyond the normal textbook and should provide students with greater understanding. This is supported by the questions in each section together with the ‘Quantitative Skills Targeted Skills Test’. IN each case answers are supplied so this could be used either by teachers or by students doing their own supportive learning.

A Level students are often let down by their inability to understand and apply the mathematical ideas contained in the specification. Textbooks, having to cover the whole specification, tend to assume students will understand after only a brief explanation. What this book does is to go into far more depth of explanation supported by worked examples and questions for the students. Using this in conjunction with their textbook should enable students to gain more confidence in handling calculations etc.

The layout is clear and consistent. Students having worked their way through one or two of the sections will know precisely what to expect in all the others. The move within each section from specification overview to the theory to worked examples and thus to questions for the reader is logical and helpful

I like this resource, there is a mix of explaining how to do the questions followed by examples for students to have a go at doing themselves.

I like the explanations using real world examples, this is followed with some worked examples before students have a go at some questions themselves. The resource is broken down into topic areas so students so that students can practice the maths with the relevant part of the specification.

I like the 1 hour test at the end of the resource as this included everything so a really thorough test for students.

Each unit starts off with some explanation of where various mathematical concepts might be used or how certain topics require mathematical skills. This gives students a bit of background. There is some explanation of economic theory in some cases so that students can use this resource alone without needing to look things up elsewhere. The questions at the end of each unit are a great way for students to test themselves. Answers are provided so these can be set as a homework or would be useful to give to students if a teacher is absent and cover work is needed as each unit has everything a student needs to answers the questions.

The layout is good, easy to follow and clear. I would use this with students who find maths hard. They could be set a chapter a week for homework.
