A very thorough resource, covering all aspects of the KS3 syllabus... I like the comprehensive nature of the pack. The range of English skills covered will allow teachers to target the learning at a student's particular area of need. The resource recognises that even in Y9 there will be students operating at L4 and that there will be students who still need to improve their handwriting. The resource shows students how to improve specific skills. More able students will appreciate the opportunity to start work at their own level... [Students] will be able to see their own progress as they move up through the levels and appreciate what they have had to do to achieve that level. The self-assessment sections encourage students to identify their own areas for development... The thematic link between media and fiction pieces fits the style of SATs... I really like the word appreciation activities

Clearly set out. Easy for work to be set. Easy for pupils to work through. A wide variety of activities to underpin teaching... I like the advice to parents... Key criteria helps pupils to see how they can improve... It can be used to check extent of learning and allow review of strengths and weaknesses. It supports classroom teaching. Key criteria included to help AfL... Clear to follow.... It is easy to use to supplement classroom learning... I like the marking guides with the writing activities. It is useful for pupils to see how the marks equate to grades. The booklists are a great idea.
